It is a compilation of all the known MAYO descendants from Rev John MAYO who emigrated from England in 1638 to Cape Cod in Massachusetts. I have worked with and have contributed much to that book. In it we have traced Capt. Al MAYO back to Rev. John MAYO

2. Isaac2 MAYO was born on 21 Nov 1758 in Harwich, Barnstable Co., MA. He married Hannah CAHOON in Aug 1781 in

Pembroke, Plymouth Co., MA. He died on 12 Oct 1844 in Brownville, Piscataquis Co., ME, at age 85.

4. Thomas3 MAYO was born on 1 Apr 1725 in Harwich, Barnstable Co., MA. He married Elizabeth WING on 5 Oct 1752 in

Harwich, Barnstable Co., MA. He died in 1778 in Newport, Newport Co., RI.

8. Joseph4 MAYO was born on 22 Dec 1696 in Hingham, Plymouth Co., MA. He married Abigail MYRICK on 20 Feb

1717/18 in Harwich, Barnstable Co., MA. He died in 1774 in Harwich, Barnstable Co., MA.

16. John5 MAYO was born in 1656 in Oyster Bay, Nassau Co., NY. He married Hannah FREEMAN, daughter of John

FREEMAN and Mercy PRENCE, on 14 Apr 1681. He died on 1 Feb 1725/26 in Harwich, Barnstable Co., MA.

32. Samuel6 MAYO was born circa 1625. He married Tamsen LUMPKIN circa 1644. He died before 26 Apr 1664 in

Jacob MAYO was born on Nov 2, 1796 in Cape Cod, Barnstable, Massachusetts, USA, son of Hannah CAHOON & Isaac MAYO (1758-1844).

Brownville, Maine is located in the centre of the state of Maine, directly to the west of Nova Scotia

Marriage to Betsy JOHNSTON

On Apr 15, 1821 Jacob married Betsy M JOHNSTON

The US Censuses of 1840 enumerated Jacob and Betsy in Camden Township, Waldo County, Maine, with 10 children (un-named).

In the US Censuses of 1850 the family was at Brownville, Picataquis, Maine. Here his names look like Joel (age 53) and wife Betsy M (age 47). Children (all born in Maine) were recorded as Benjamin J (age18), Charles E (16), Louisa K (13), Caroline (10), Francis S (6) and Alfred H (age 4).

Move to Wisconsin

By 1860 the family had moved to Beloit, Rock County, Wisconsin.

In 1862 both Jacob and his wife (Betsy) died in Beloit, Wisconsin.

In the early 1860’s son Benjamin married Mary DANIEL in Red River (later Manitoba, Canada), a daughter of Madeleine McKAY and Griffith DANIEL (1785-1869).

In 1870 son Charles Edwin married Caroline SUTHERLAND in St Peters (Manitoba), daughter of Eleanor & George SUTHERLAND (1810-1898).
