HENRY JAMES SINCLAIR (1888-1970)
On Feb 23, 1888 Henry James SINCLAIR was born in the St Peters Indian Reserve, son of Jane HARPER & Andrew SINCLAIR (1860-1901).
** Most of the credit for the genealogy of this family is deserved by Warren Sinclair (See his postings on the Forum).
In 1901 his father (Andrew) died in St Peters when Henry was only 13 years old.
In the 1906 Census, Henry (age 18) and his brother Charles (age 15) were with their widowed mother (Jane) in St Peters.
Surrender of the St Peters Reserve
In 1907 the St Peter's Indian Reserve was surrendered, and by 1909 most of the native residents had moved to the present day Peguis (Fisher River) Reserve, north of Hodgson, MB. However, in the 1911 Census, Henry (age 18) and his brother Charles (age 15) were still living in St Peters Parish with their widowed mother Jane.
Henry marries Emma Jane DANIELS
In 1915 daughter Bertha was born to Henry SINCLAIR & Emma Jane DANIELS, daughter of Elizabeth Jane HUDSON & John Thomas DANIELS (b-1872).
In the Census of 1916 we find Henry James SINCLAIR a Lake Winnipeg fisherman (age 28), his wife Emma Jane (age 20) and their daughter Bertha (age 1) in the Fisher River (Peguis) Indian Reserve.
Marriage to Catherine SIMARD
On Oct 2, 1919 Henry married Catherine SIMARD, daughter of Elizabeth COCHRANE & Louis SIMARD (1855-1920) from Manigotagan. ** MORE ABOUT LOUIS SIMARD
In 1923 daughter Bertha married Stephen (Steve) McCORRISTER at Hodgson.
In 1936 Henry’s 77 year old mother, Jane SINCLAIR died in St Peters (now the RM of St Andrews).
On Mar 12, 1970 Henry James SINCLAIR died in Selkirk. He was buried two days later in the St Peters Church Cemetery.
On Mar 16, 1975 Catherine died in Selkirk.
