Can anyone explain to me how (Ann) Harriet Sinclair was the niece of Charles Edwin Mayo through marriage? Catherine Elizabeth McDonald, daughter of Hugh McDonald and Harriet Sinclair, was my great grandmother. I have been searching for a number of years attempting to identify the Thomas Sinclair that was Harriet's father. I do know that Elizabeth Whitford married Thomas Sinclair in 1858 at St. Peters, however, I do not know who Thomas Sinclair's parents were. Elizabeth Whitford was the daughter of Joseph Whitford and Ellen Kennedy (possibly Jane Kennedy's daughter???)

Please, please, if anyone has information that may be of assistance and is willing to share, I would sure appreciate it.

I am looking for more information regarding daughter Cora Mayo married to Edward George Duxbury. How many children did they have? Their names?

I am looking for info on my great grandmother Ellen Mayo. She is listed in the 1901 and 1921 census but I have been unsuccessful in finding a birth record. She was born in 1873 in what was then NWT, now Manitoba. Her mother was aboriginal - but I dont know which Nation she belonged to. My grandfather, James Beggs, grew up in or near Sioux Narrows. I presume his mother returned to her Aboriginal community after her husband died when my grandfater was quite young.

I don't think the dates work out for Ellen to have been Charles' daughter, but she was perhaps the child of Benjamin?

Any thought or advice as to where to look for information on her birth and aboriginal ties would be appreciated.

My father is Wayne Beggs son of James Edwin Beggs and Evelyn (née) Sigardson. He died in 1992 in Barrier, BC

From Manitoba Vital Stats: On Feb 7, 1899 Ellen MAYO married George Henry BEGG in Winnipeg. The absence of an S at the end is probably an error in the record.
Are these your great grandparents?

I have your grandmother’s name spelled Elizabeth Eveyln SIGURDSON. She was born 1919 in Eriksdale, Manitoba. Can you tell me more about her parents?

Thanks, I do have that marriage certificate but can track down nothing further back such as a birth certificate for Ellen which would list her parents.

My grandmother's parents were Herman and Helga Sigurdson. Helga grew up in Ericsdale. At some point the family moved to Churchbridge. There were 5 children inclusing my grandmother.

Helga and my great grandfather, along with my grandparents (who were married by then) and some of the siblings moved from Winnipeg to Vancouver in 1946.

I think I have Ellen MAYO’s parents. She is most likely a daughter of Mary DANIEL and Benjamin Johnston MAYO (1832-1920).
I may eventually do a Family Page for that family, but it is not currently on my Priority List.

I am even more certain now that Ellen MAYO was a child of Benjamin due to very strong circumstantial evidence. I have gone ahead and created a New Family Page at this link:
