There has been some claim to fame regarding an Alexander Monkman (Mar 29, 1870-1941) m. Louisa Tate, who discovered Monkman pass and Monkman Trail in B.C.
The only Alexander Monkman I can find was 1st son of Joseph Monkman Jr.
My lineage is from Joseph Monkman Jr.s 7th son Andrew Monkman.
Do you know anything about the Monkman who discovered Monkman Pass. In everything so far that I have read about this man, his parents were not identified, which i find unusual.
I do have the book but actually forgot about it. I have ordered Matheson Island History from Mona Ladoucer who works for Council.

Tks Eileen

Note:
RE: "Their 5 children were taken in by his brother William. fr Loon Straits"
this copied in error. It should be on the same line as Thomas Alexander Monkman.

In the body of the text on Andrew is found:

In the 1901 census we find son Thomas (age 19) at Berens River with a wife named Mary J (age 17). This is said to have been a Mary SETTEE of unknown origins (help needed).

Thomas married Mary J. (No children that i can find) He then married Margaret (Maggie) Scott. Note: researching info on both wives. will post info when found.

Thanks for noticing that Elaine. I have since determined that that was Tom's sister Mary Jane, not his wife. I have reworded that.

Regarding the Alexander MONMAN b-1870 who married TATE: He was born at Manitoba House on Lake Manitoba, the son of Nancy Ann (nee WHITFORD) SPENCE, the 2nd wife of Henry MONKMAN (1834-1926).

Agree that Mary Jane was sister not wife to Thomas Alexander (as posted by moderator)
