It was great to read all the information you have about my grandfather - John Edward Massey - but there are some serious omissions. The first is that he took part in the North-West Rebellion of 1885 in Saskatchewan. I'm not sure which side he fought on. The second is that he remembered vividly the Red River Rebellion of 1869-1870 (Riel). That information was taken directly from his obituary. I think mentioning war service is very important.

Could you Email me that obituary?

Sorry for the delay.

I have a copy of John Edward Massey's obituary, but I don't remember if it was the original newspaper print or a photocopy. "He remembered vividly the Red River Rebellion of 1869-1870" is either verbatim or very close to verbatim from the obituary. It also mentions him taking part in the North-West Rebellion of 1885 in Saskatchewan, but the obituary has it worded a different way, if I remember correctly. When I talk to people on the Internet about him, I always mention both rebellions, so that information is definitely correct. The obit also said he hunted goose and was a good shot, and that his sons served as pallbearers at his funeral.

I also have the original notice of his death - definitely the original. Back then, they would print the information on a stiff piece of paper, a card, I guess you could call it. I have to look for both. I have them, it is just a matter of me finding them.

My dad - Thomas Massey - was the only son who participated in WW2. I believe Willard was in the army too, but he never saw action. Mentioning war service is important, and it would be nice if you included that information.
