Hi Gary

A couple of notes on the great new William Hugh McLeod page - aside from the anecdote repeated.

Angus Graham McLeod married Margaret "Margie" Flock

Iris McLeod married Alex Duncan

Kathleen "Kay" McLeod married Gordon Smith

Margaret McLeod married John Campbell

Florence McLeod married Frank Youngman

There is some confusion about Isabella's father. Archie visited the family for a few days when he was in Scotland during the war and told the story when I was quite young. The possibility exists that he was talking about an uncle of Isabella, but I don't think so. Margie McLeod said once that she understood he was a ship's carpenter, and you have him as a "pitheadman" whatever that is. I have never been able to find any reference to the marine rescue, but the chest and engraving must be genuine as Archie talked about them many times.

I am the last person that should be questioning someone else's spelling, but we always knew my grandfather as Billy with a "y" rather than "ie".

Regards

Ross

Thanks Ross
With that info and some other stuff I found, I have made changes and additions and updated Billy’s Page.

Regarding your JOHNSTONE cousins: Somewhere in my searches I recall finding an Angus Graham McLEOD who had some kind of a connection to the JOHNSTONE family. Perhaps that was your Uncle who you say married Margaret FLOCK. Can you tell me more about them?

Hi Gary

intro to Billy McLeod's page quote "Inspiration for this page came from Billy’s great grandson, Ross McLEOD,". I don't know if I'm all that great but I am only Billy's grandson.
Also I believe Archie's father in law was Joseph Milton Dobie.

Hi Gary

More on Isabella McLeod nee Graham. I looked back on my tree and realised that I show her born Apr 15,1886 at Burning Lambert,Falkirk,County of Sterling,Scotland to Alexander Graham who married Ann Blythe on February 26, 1869 in Carrondire Parish, District of Grangemouth,Scotland. However I can't find where I got that information and can't seem to find it again. Since they named their first daughter Blythe, it is probably accurate. I think. Maybe.

Also when Joseph Milton Dobie died at 97, I remember it being mentioned that he was turned down for service in WW I because he was too old. If my math is correct (no guarantee) his 1871 birth date meant he was 43 in 1914 and would have missed action.

Yes I know......Picky..picky..picky

Take a look at this Ross:

WW I Attestation: May 19, 1916: Joseph Milton DOBIE of Paynton, SK: Born in Huron County, ON; wife: Rose of Paynton. Children One boy and two girls; Donald (age 4), Isabell (2) and Jean (3 months).

Also, I discovered a Website that you must see!! When you go to it at the link below, click on the Surname List to find all your McLEOD ancestors. I sent an Email to her and asked her to visit my website but haven’t heard from her yet. She apparently has lots of pictures too! Here’s the Link: ANCESTORS OF CHRISTINA RATZINGER

I stand corrected on Joseph Milyon Dobie's WW I record. Because of the age issue I never checked it out. His Discharge Certificate shows him enlisting May 17, 1916, with the 210th Btn of CFC and being discharged on demobilisation Feb 20,1919 at age 34 with 18 months served in France. The age figure - if not a misprint - is interesting.

Regarding the Ratzinger site, see my posting re Descendants of ALEXANDER McLEOD (1822-1894) dated Tue Mar 30, 2010 1:40 pm on the Fidler site. Am I allowed to say "Way ahead of you, Gary"? Ha ha.

I found where I got the info re Isabella's parents. It is on the site
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/us ... index.html
- a site similar to the Ratsinger site. When you open it, scroll down to "index of individuals"

They are trying to get a response to ten year old forum entries. I wouldn't touch that site again with a ten foot pole
