Thanks Gary for the page you did. A couple of things to add. Christie Bella Sinclair was the daughter of Charles Sinclair & Victoria Thomas. James & her had another son Stewart, born 1908, died 1909. Not sure when he married Mary Todoruk, but I think the first child was Catherine, born about 1912 from the 1916 census.
Benjamin married Edith Kippling 1904. Margaret married Alfred James Leask, 1885, he died 1892. She married George Saunders 1902, he died 1941. There were children from both. I have a fair amount of info., on all of Peter's family if anyone needs it. Hope someone can help me with Peter & Margaret's parentage.

I have incorporated your new information into Peter's Page and added a few extra details from my files.

Regarding Peter’s parents: I cannot find evidence to properly support it, but I really think that Peter may have been a child of Mary and Samuel STEVENSON (b-1790). In 1871 both Peter and Samuel were members of the St Peters Indian Reserve.

hi folks, just saw this post and am wondering if anyone has any more information about Peter and margaret, my interest is in his son James born 1871 married Mary Tudoruk (about 1910), if you look in the 1870 census of Manitoba you will find thet Peters Father was listed as Wm Stevenson and Margarets father was Wm Ballendin. Wm Stevenson was born around 1810 and Died abt 1881 (Sprague and Frye), his father is listed as John Stevenson Born 1789 Red River settlement died unknown, Margaret Father Wm was born around 1790 and died 1869.

James Stevenson b1871-d1949 m Mary Tudoruk, first child of this marriage was Mary born 1911, second child was Catherine b1912. Mary does not show up in the 1916 census records of St Peters along side with her parants, how ever there is a Mary stevenson being the age of 4 years living with a relative being listed as "iligitamate child". 1921 Catherine does not show up and living with her parents James and Mary, however Mary does show up and being the age of 10 years, my interest in these two is the fact Mary was my grandmother and she married a Elzear McPherson from Couchiching First Nations about 1925, i am hopeing to find out who her siblings were and when did Mary Tudoruk pass. note i do have a long list of names whom may or may not belong to this family as i found them in a obit while researching a lakatos family

Sorry JC. I cannot find the 1870 reference you are referring to that indicates Peter’s father as William. The only reference to Peter is in Sprague & Frye ID-4862, Table 1 (Peter STEVENSON b-1830 but this reference does not name his father. Table 4, regarding 1870 only refers to his children. Samuel, Mary, Margaret and Roderick who were in St Peters at that time.

I need more information from yourself and from Marilyn (Merrily) regarding which one of Peter STEVENSON’s children was your ancestors? Are you and Merrily related?

In order to properly follow up on your ancestors we need to begin with the facts about your own parents and grandparents, and then work back in time from them. Please (both Merrily & JC) give me more information about your parents and grandparents. When and where they were born, etc., so I can do a proper follow-up.

James first married Christine "Bella" Sinclair abt 1900
three children were born
James second marriage was to Mary/Maria Tudurok abt 1910
13 Children were born
1st born was my grandmother
Mary Martha Stevenson 1911 as per Manitoba Vital statistics website althought the spelling of the
mothers last names is wrong

Mary Martha marries Elzear McPherson from Couchiching First Nartions abt 1925,
1926 pay list of Couchiching showing Elzear with one wife and 4 children (Elzear was married prior but his 1st wife dies 1924)
first child of Elzear and Mary was Amelia (my mother)1926

Amelia marries Clifford Bruyere 1944
13 children were born of this marriage

her Parents were Maxime Tudoruk and Matrina
in the 1906 Census of Manitoba this family can be found under the name Tudoruk in St Andrews Parish.

Thanks very much for the wake-up JC! I somehow forgot about that 1870 Census Link which presents a refreshingly new light on the whole situation. That’s an excellent breakdown of your own lineage.

I will be busy for a while digesting all of this and will be doing some updates and revisions accordingly in the next day or so.

It has been many months since I last heard from Merrily (Marilyn ANDERSON) who inspired the Peter STEVENSON Page. I feel an obligation to do more on her lineage, but was waiting to see where she fit into the picture. Are you related to her? Perhaps you can fill me in on her connection.

In 1902 widowed daughter Margaret remarried to George SAUNDERS, son of Mary SMITH and Roderick SAUNDERS (b-1826).

Are you sure this is correct?
in the 1906 census of Manitoba it shows George Saunders living with his parents Roderick and Mary and having a son George being of the age of 6. no wife is shown

also the Manitoba vital statistics shows George Saunders Married a Maggie Leask in 1902.

Margaret (nee STEVENSON) was the widow of Alfred LEASK when she married George SAUNDERS, son of Mary SMITH and Roderick SAUNDERS (b-1826). Check this llink:
