Wonderful!

Prior to John ROWAND, Louise UMPHERVILLE was allied with Pierre Boshue dit BRELAND. This country-marriage produced a number of children at least some of whom were adopted by John around 1810, including Marie-Anne BRELAND. Marie-Anne, who called John 'father', married a clerk named Richard GRANT at Fort Edmonton. The Breland-Umphreville country-marriage is attested in Grant, Johnny A Son of the Fur Trade: The Memoirs of Johnny Grant Ed. Gerhard Ens (University of Alberta Press, 2008).

In John Rowand: Czar of the Priaries, J.G. MacGregor suggests that Nicolas Montour and Susanne Marie UMPHERVILLE/HUMPHREYVILLE/ETC took up sooner than in 1820. He believes that a reference to John Rowand and Nicolas Montour, both then working for the NWCo, as living in tents with two Metis women and children likely refers to the Umpherville sisters. Are you more confident in your dates?

Sorry, I meant to add in that MacGregor's dates of Rowand and Montour living in tents with two Metis women in 1810 while a new post was being built.
