Johnston Family Question

Post by Ft George » Fri Dec 08, 2017 12:33 pm

I have just started to try and track my family’s ancestry and wonder if anyone can give me some ideas on tracking down information on my great grandfather’s family. His name was Colin Johnston, born June 1866? in Winnipeg and came to Edmonton then to Athabasca Landing. He married Marguerite (Margaret Jane) Gullion. My mom left a note that said his family were, Murdock, Malcom, Matilda, Liza and Sam but its’s not clear what the relationship is.
Thanks,
George

Yes, my grandmother (Mabel) was the daughter of Collin Johnston. Guessing the note my mom made may be referring to Collin's brothers and sisters.

Hello all, Colin Johnston was a son of Margaret Cochrane and James Johnston. Siblings were Murdock, Samuel, Elizabeth, Matilda. Father James died abt 1880 and Nov 1881 mother Margaret remarried to John McLeod, a widower of 6 weeks. They had a set of twin girls in Mar 1883. 1881 Census had the two families living close to each other. 1891 Census had some of the blended family together. 1901 Census included Elizabeth Johnston, Colin's single sister with him and his family. I would be happy to try and help more, Edith Armstrong Mcleod.
