I found the one of Liza and Mary COOK particularly interesting. Can you tell us more about them? When they were born and who their parents were?

I found this picture on Brochet Facebook page. Lots of old pictures.

I found more children on that same MNC Historical Online Database which does in fact show a Liza (Eliza) as well as Mary (Marie) and Elise.

I have accordingly updated Joseph’s Page and added that Church Photo. Was that the church at Lac du Brochet or the town of Brochet? When did it burn down?

First, sorry for the late reply. Church was at town of Brochet on Reindeer Lake. Not sure when it burnt down.

I finally visited my cousin and aunt Philomene in Brochet the last week of July. A very moving experience for me. :) Something I should of done years ago. I was able to visit my grandfather's (Adolphe Lapensee) trading post site on the Cochrane river, a 2-1/2 hour boat ride from Brochet. His site was actually name after him. Le Pensie, MB

Thank you,

Welcome to the Forum Noel!

I have quite a bit of information about the OLSON families but I need to know where you fit in. I’m guessing you must be a descendant of Oluff OLSON (1836-1888) who came from Norway in 1856 with the HBC and retired to Red River in 1859.

Can you tell us more about your OLSON grandfather and how you connect to him?

Oluff was my father's grandfather... I was at a family reunion yesterday and my aunts were showing old slides from their many trips to Canada, as well as a few older pictures of my grandmother when she was a child. I believe we had a couple pictures of my great grandpa Olaf in them, one by Reindeer Lake?

The date of my great grandmother Charlottes birth is probably 1906, not 1900, but that would be neat to know she lived to be 105 years old, my grandma would be really surprised. I will pass on your information to the rest of my family because they will know much more about this. My cousin told me today that there is a book written on Oluff Olson and his trip from Norway to Canada, but I may be a little off. Whatever the case, she doesn't have the book and she didn't make copies of it  but one of my grandmother's sister has it up in Canada and maybe I could get the title for you later. It is supposedly a pretty good read too! My dad has another book as well that briefly mentions my grandmother's family up in Reindeer lake area, but again, I don't remember the title. I will try to get that one for you as well. I believe that book even has a few pictures in it!

The birth date of Jan 11, 1900 that I have shown for Charlotte came from a Scrip affidavit. However it does look suspicious; probably an error. Her age given in census records just confuse matters further. In 1911 she was recorded as age 6 (b-1905) and in 1916 as age 14 (b-1902). She was with her parents at Lac du Brochet in those census years.

Again I’m guessing that your grandparents must have been Helen ANDERSON and Murdock McRae OLSON (1882-1857) who died in 1957 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Is that correct?
