Hello,
Could you be so kind as to provide me with the references (sources of information) for the period John Hodgson retired in the Chat Falls area. I am particularly interested in obtaining HBC file references and sources to legal documents pertaining to the purchase of his property.
Thank kindly in advance,
JPK
I believe Mike Dufour found the notary papers for the land transaction between John Hodgson & Duncan Cameron for approximately 1050 acres in Onslow for 1000 pounds; it was at the office of notary John Gerband Beek-sometimes misread as Beck (presumably in Montreal) on 11 Feb 1813.
I will try to attach first two pages to demonstrate the veracity of this information.
Best regards,

Well, that doesn't seem to work
Here is a loose synopsis of the transaction over 7 pages/parts:
part 2, Lot Numbers 6 & 7 in the 1st. Range of Lots,
and Southerly Quarter of Lot Number 6 in the 2nd. Range of Lots,
and Lot Number 7 in the same Range of Lots,
# (added in margin) and Lots Number * & ( in the 3rd. Range of Lots
in the said Township of Onslow,
1050 acres with the usual road allowances, etc.
part 3, all these lands acquired by Duncan Cameron from John Sayers
and notarized 17 Oct. 1809 in Montreal,
given over to John Hodgson with all the rights, etc
part 4, and his heirs forever from this day henceforth,
for 1000 pounds current money to John Sayer & his heirs,
first by paying 300 pounds before the signing of these papers,
then 6 annual payments of 100 pounds each,
and the 7th. & last payment
part 5, to be made 8 months after the 6 years,
with appropriate legal interest to be calculated from time to time as the payments are made.
And Duncan Cameron is released from previous obligations to John Sayer,
part 6, and Duncan Cameron transfers all rights regarding these lands to John Hodgson,
part 7, at the office of John Gerband, Montreal,
11 Feb 1813, signed by all three parties, and notary BEEK, as well as notary GRIFFIN.
