Sorry G, but i think you have the parents of james and Maria mixed up,,,,
Maria was born in 1832 in Edmonton her father as stated by the 1870 census was Hugh Gibson, her mother was Angelique Chalifoux she died in 1904 in Fort frances.
James was born in 1825 Northwest, his father was Dr. John Calder 1775-1825 his mother was Sarah Humphries(ville), his brother was Haratio Calder
they were married 1846

Regarding MARIA GIBSON’S parents:
You say Maria’s parents were Angelique CHALIFOUX & Hugh GIBSON (from Census 1870 which is essentially Sprague & Frye (ID-627) which is notorious for errors. Scrip affidavits are more reliable because they come directly from the deponent, in the following instances, from James CALDER himself:
LAC Scrip: Co-signed July 22, 1878 by William McDONALD & Isaac SANDERSON for James CALDER deponent in the care of his wife Maria of St Clements Parish (James made application f
or his wife Maria, born fall, 1834 in St Andrews Parish,
daughter of Mary (Metis) & William GIBSON, an Orkney man). “I make this application for my wife as she is at Fort Frances, Keewatin, and she cannot come before the Agent herself.”

Regarding JAMES CALDER’s parents:
Similar discrepancies between Sprague & Frye and Scrip signed by James himself stating his parents as Marguerite Cree woman and
Marcus CALDER.
