Alex married May 20, 1886 in St Clements Parish to Catherine TRAVERSE or BEAR of uncertain origins.

St Judes Anglican Church, Grand Marais; built (of hand-sawed black poplar logs) in 1896.

In 1896St Judes Anglican Church, Grand Marais, was built (of hand-sawn black poplar logs).  One of the best men who could handsaw logs was Alexander.  The first pews were handmade by Jim RAVEN, a one-armed Indian from Scanterbury. Alex’s daughter, Flora (nee KENNEDY) SAYER became one of the primary organists at this church.

Census of 1901 in Grand Marais: Alex KENNEDY, age 30; wife Catherine, age 30. Children: Mary (age 13), Flora (11), Edith (9), Leonard (7) and Alfred (age 3).

 

In 1905 daughter Mary married Godwin Arthur COOK in St Clements Parish, son of Mary WHITE and Henry COOK(1848-1921+).

 

Census of 1906 in St Peters/ Dynevor:  Alex KENNEDY, age 38; wife Catherine age 36.  Children:  Mary (19), Flora (16), Edith (13), Leonard (10), Alfred (8) and Alex (age 5).

 

By 1912 daughter Flora Belle was in a connubial relationship (church-wed in 1915) with Alexander SAYER, son of Emma CAMBELL and George SAYER (1845-1892). ** MORE ABOUT GEORGE SAYER

 

Census of 1911 in St Peters West: Alexander KENNEDY, age 42; wife Catherine, age 34.  Children: Edith (age 17), Alexander (9) and   Gertie (age 4). Also with them are married daughters, Mary COOK, age 22 and Flora LAMBERT, age 20.
In 1911 daughter Edith married Francis Charles PERRY in St Clements Parish, son of Mary FOX and Frank PERRY (born about 1848 in England).

 

World War I
1914-1918

 

On Aug 4, 1914 Great Britain (Canada on Aug 5) declared war on Germany and Austria-Hungary to uphold treaties with France and Belgium which were under German attack. This marked the beginning of World War I.

 

In 1915 sons Leonard and Alfred enlisted, and on Feb 17, 1916 Alex himself enlisted, all at Selkirk.

 

Census of 1916 at 142 Dufferin Ave in Selkirk: Alexander KENNEDY, age 46; wife Catherine, age 44. Children: Leonard (age 19), Alfred (17), Alexander (14) and Gertrude (age 9).

On Apr 15, 1917 son Alfred died a solider in France.

 

November 11,1918, Armistice Day (Remembrance Day) marked the end of the First World War.

 

Census of 1921 at 142 Dufferin Ave in Selkirk: Alex KENNEDY, age 57; wife Catherine, age 49.and daughter Gertrude (age 14).

 

In 1924 son Leonard married Juliet Jane STARR in Selkirk, daughter of Jane Mary PRINCE and James William STARR (b-1876).

 

In 1934 son Leonard married a second time to Irene CHIEF in St Clements Parish, daughter of Emma Jane SMITH and Thomas CHIEF (b-1873).

 

On Oct 27, 1951 Alexander KENNEDY died, and in 1959 Catherine died. They are both buried in the St Peters Cemetery.

 

In 1952 son Leonard married a third time to Lizzie (nee CROMARTY) DILLABOUGH in Selkirk, daughter of Mary Jane KIPLING and Samuel CROMARTY (1878-1940).
