there is a descendent named Field living in New Westminster BC.
i do have her contact info - if you are interested. the info is slightly dated - i met her at Pat Smith's funeral.

W R was an HBC employee. they were given positions of authority to protect HBC interests. he was also proficient with the pen - not necessarily a common trait mid 1800’s.

Patricia and Ross Smith (both from Vancouver) have passed away within the last two - three years.
