Re: JAMES CURTIS BIRD (1773-1856)

Hi lauramay, Of course Mary was a Plains Cree, and all descendants thereafter are Metis, but as a Metis, we(or some) still identify their tribes. For instance, I am a Cree Metis, while some may be Blackfoot Metis. In Alberta, in order to register as Metis, the generations before have to be registere...

Re: JAMES CURTIS BIRD (1773-1856)

Also, I am not sure if any were registered indians, that is my fathers area of knowledge, but I have my Metis status, so there must be some evidence somewhere.

Re: JAMES CURTIS BIRD (1773-1856)

lauramay, we must be very closely related, as James was my third great grandfather, and William my 2nd great grandfather, then John Thomas Bird as my great grand father and Francis Bird was my grandfather.

Re: JAMES CURTIS BIRD (1773-1856)

William Bird, son of James Curtis lived and worked in Edmonton, AB. There seems to be some confusion about this on Red River Ancestry. He was the owner of Bird's Mill on Mill Creek, a grist mill that was a failure due to the lack of consistency in the flow of the creek.

Re: JAMES CURTIS BIRD (1773-1856)

From what I understand, Jemmy Jock did not have a child named William. I have spoken with my father, whose lineage was traced by the Alberta Government so that he'd be able to testify in court that there are still Metis living in AB. He says our lineage is as follows: James Curtis Bird, William Bird...

Re: JAMES CURTIS BIRD (1773-1856)

Well, my father is really the expert in this area, and I have sent this page to him, and I am sure he will let me know more in due time. From what I understand we are descended from James Curtis Bird by his son William Bird from the Swampy Cree Mary. I am a little confused about this, though, becaus...
