Just wanted to note a correction needed on a date:

Sometime after 1860 daughter Matilda married Duncan McPHAIL (1833-1894) from Scotland, son of Mary and Angus McPHAIL (b-1786)

I assume Angus McPHAIL died in 1886 or he would have died long before his son Duncan was conceived.

Justs did a little of my own research on the net. Family search has records for three children born to a John Folster and Elspeth Byas(Bias). However, there is not connection to our John here. This is information I collected at the Manitoba Archives a couple of years ago. I have a copy of James' HBC contract signed on 22 Mar 1792 for three years. Another contract was signed on 25 Jun 1798. This is confusing. On Omar Norquay's page, sons William and James Norquay died young and on the James Spence page they are being baptized at their mother's second marriage.
