Re: HUGH GIBSON (1780-1869)

I agree that there were 2 Hugh Gibson's in Red River, one married to Angelique Chalifoux and one to Christianna. Isabella Gibson Bird said her parents were Hugh and Ann Gibson in her Manitoba Affidavit in 1875. Are you suggesting that Christianna could have been known as Ann? I always thought Angeli...

Re: HUGH GIBSON (1780-1869)

This a really confusing family tree. It's not going to be easy to sort out. Sounds like fun. Can you highlight the evidence that there were 2 Ann's, to get us started?

Re: GEORGE SETTER (1816-1899)

George Setter's twin son, George William Setter, did not marry at all. Based on his grave marker shared with his twin sister, he died in 1877. The George William Setter that married Viola Blanche Dahl in 1922 was born in 1891, son of Colin Campbell Setter. Also, based on the same headstone and Georg...

Re: WILLIAM ROBERT SMITH (1797-1869)

I found Marnie's first book, "Branches - Grandfather tell me a story" about William Robert Smith and Mary Ann Swain's family. In it my Mom made notes of Marnie's address and phone number. Also book 2 was to be about William Roberts Smith and Ann Omand family. Book 3 was to be about the Mun...

Re: WILLIAM ROBERT SMITH (1797-1869)

I have Marnie Inkster's son's name, phone number and address in 2002. Is there a way I can send it to you privately?

Re: WILLIAM ROBERT SMITH (1797-1869)

Hi Barbara. This is Ken Lang.
I've read one of Marnie's books and used her as a source but I have no idea where her research material ended up. I know my mom donated money to the writing of a 3rd book. I hope her material landed/lands at the Manitoba Provincial Archives.

Re: JOHN INKSTER (1806-1864)

Thanks Gary. I think my tone on the last message was too strong. I was rushed for time and pushed the send button before I had a chance to refine my wording. I'm not use to working in a forum.

Thank you for all your work on John Inkster. It looks great and I'm honored for the reference.

Re: JOHN INKSTER (1806-1864)

Fact: Jane (nee McNab) Sanderson, wife of Robert Sanderson, claimed on 18 Aug 1875 that Isabella Sanderson, her niece, was the mother of Frederick James Sanderson, born 4 Jun 1862 in St Paul Parish, and that his father was unknown. This Isabella Sanderson is NOT Isabella (nee Sanderson) Inkster. Rea...

Interesting Reading on Red River Settlement

Last week I read "Red River shadows" by Olive Knox, published by MacMillan in 1948. Although it is fiction it is based on fact. It covers the years 1818 to 1827, 1836 to 1838, and 1844 to 1849. I quite enjoyed the book. I also read: "Statement Respecting The Earl of Selkirk's Settleme...
