Hello Everyone

I am also a descendant from Donald Sutherland through his daughter Isabella.I am living in Brisbane Queensland. Any more information on White Bear, which I believe is Sally's animal name according to the Cree Plains first nations people I spoke with in Canada, would be appreciated.

Regards
Yrret

Welcome to the Forum Yrret. Information you’re looking for is at this link:
WHITE BEAR aka TURNER (1780-1840)
I presume you are a descendant of John Macdonald WEIR (1817-1882) who moved from Scotland to Australia around 1838. Is that correct?

Hi, I am also Australian... my grandmother was Marjory Macdonald Wilson (the Macdonald was a family name handed down as part of family tradition). She also told us that we were descended from a Cree Indian princess who married a Scotsman and returned with him to Scotland. That is all I know, but the Macdonald seems like it might fit in with John Macdonald Weir somehow. I don't know much more than that, although I am trying to get in contact with a few more distant relatives (my mum's cousins) who are researching the family tree. What I do have that may be of interest is this: towards the end of her life, one of her children painted her portrait as an ivory miniature, dressed in her Indian clothes and beads that she had kept. Later still, perhaps when members of the family were about to leave Scotland for Australia, one of the grandchildren? painted an oil painting from that ivory miniature. The oil painting was eventually inherited by my grandmother and always hung over her piano in pride of place in her Sydney home. When she died, the painting went to her oldest granddaughter (my cousin). I inherited her wooden seed? beads (the long dark brown strand you can see under her hair. Here is a photograph of the painting (the best I have, currently.) I have recently regained contact with my cousin and am trying to get a better photo taken of the painting to hand down to my children. Sorry I can't give more factual information, but perhaps there is truth in the family legends that can help identify her! All my life I have wanted to know her name and more about her :) Image

Hello Michelle and Pam.
I am a descendant of Donald Sutherland through his daughter Isabella. As Pam knows.
Sally Wapisk or Wappis (whiter bear her animal name as I was informed last year by the Cree Plains First Nation people in Canada) was not as far as I understand a "Indian Princess" nor did she go to Scotland with Donald. However his 4 children went back with him, two at a time, and settled in Scotland. One stayed in Scotland, one to New Zealand and two to Queensland.

Regards
Yrret
