Hi Gary - it's been a while since I had a look at your website - it certainly has grown!! I finally waded through all the microfisched Red River colony records 1832- 1870 and sorted the Isham's, Asham's, and Ashim's. In 1870, in St Peter's parish, Elizabeth (Bear) Ashim lists her husband as James Ashim and her father as Jacob Bear. James Ashim lists his father as Price Ashim.
Their children are Isaac b. 1845, James b. 1848, Nathaniel b.1852, William b. 1854, Mariann b. 1859, Rachel b. 1861, Edith ( my great grandma) b. 1865. Marcus is not listed but we know he is the youngest after Edith. The birthdates could be a year out.
I can find Price Ashim living in Swampy Village, Rupert's Land from 1838 - 1849 but lose the trail after that. It states that he was age 60 in 1849. Jacob Bear is listed in Swampy Village, Rupert's Land 1838- 1843 but no age is given for him.
I also went on the Government of Canada files in the Library and Archives section. I found the scrip records for Edith Davis Asham ( my great grandmother). I have ordered copies of the scrip. That's all the info I have for now! Heather

Thanks for that Heather – it’s been a while since I reviewed all that, so nothing new at my end so far.

Regarding your maternal great grandfather Arthur John HUCKELL b-1861: In Vital Stats I found that on Jul 7, 1892 Arthur John HUCKELL married a Maggie ROSS in Winnipeg.
Then, in obituaries I found Mrs. Margaret Madden HUCKELL died Aug 13, 1940 in Middlechurch, widow of Arthur J HUCKELL; It says that Mrs HUCKELL was a pioneer worker of the Jewish mission and a member of the Elim Chapel. Surviving was one daughter Mrs. M CRANSTON of Winnipeg.
When did A J HUCKELL die?

Arthur John Huckell died Oct.1914 in Vancouver, BC. He had left Maggie Ross Huckell and was living with Olga Mary Huckell ( new wife) and her son Noble Bell Huckell.

HI Gary - I've been trying to follow Price Asham back in time and find notes about him here and there in the Cumberland House and other HBC journals. In the Debt records, it lists William Leask as being Price Asham's father in law. Price is also called Huggemowappew or Hoggee or Huggee in several notes. Do you think that it's possible that Asham Prince and Price Asham could be the same person?

I totally agree with you Heather. I too believe that Asham PRINCE and Price ASHAM were probably the same person.

References to the name PRICE – ASHAM has always puzzle to me! I think the PRICE part of these references must have been a typo error that occurred in the early records and the error persisted in later references. I cannot find any other early references to the name PRICE and it is more likely that the name PRICE was actually PRINCE. Furthermore, the name PRINCE (referring to Chief PEGUIS descendants) did not come into being until 1840 (when the chief was baptized by Rev John SMITHURST as William KING, and decreed that thereafter his children would become PRINCE’s.

Hi Gary - this is an excerpt that I found that states Price Isham is Huggemowappew and his father in law is William Leask. It's from 1816-1817 Norway House . My theory is that Price Isham is Charles Thomas Price Isham's son ( hence the name Price) and his brother or half brother is Thomas.

“Kishecaethin, Huggemowappew [Price Isham], Thomas Isham, Wm. Leask [father-in-law of Price Isham?], Mantootackoos [brother-in-law of Thomas Isham]” were listed in that order in the Norway House Debt List. (PAM, HBCA, B.154/d/3b, p. 36, Norway House Account Book, 1816/1817, kept by James Kirkness, mf. 1M541).

I also found some other correspondence from 1831 that lists Price Isham ( Hoggee) as a superb boatsman. I found it in the Frontier School Division Social Studies/Native Studies

Heather – I am familiar with the information from the Frontier School Division.
I already have a Page for John ASHAM PRINCE who married Hanna LEASK as you mention. Here’s the link:

JOHN ASHAM PRINCE 1800

I am going to do a further review and update for that family, probably tomorrow, and I will try to incorporate some of the information you mentioned. Then, let’s continue our discussion under the Forum Topic for that family. I’d love to solve these puzzles.
