"On March 31, 1859 Tom re-married at St Andrews to Rachel HARRIOTT, daughter of Nancy ROWLAND (1818-1849), the second wife of her father, John Edward HARRIOTT (1797-1866). She was a step-daughter of her father’s third wife, Frances BUNN, daughter of Phoebe SINCLAIR & Thomas BUNN (1765-1852)."

I'm fairly sure this reference to Nancy ROWLAND (1818-1849) should in fact read ROWAND. Nancy was the daughter of Chief Factor John ROWAND and his country-wife Louise UMPHREVILLE. Occasionally the Rowands were referred to as Rowlands or Rowans, but as there were a separate ROWLAND family in the Saskatchewan District, this spelling could be misleading.

It is also interesting that the Harriotts tended to form family alliances with more than one marriage. In their alliance with the Rowands, J.E. HARRIOTT married Nancy ROWAND and later her brother John ROWAND Jr. married Harriott's daughter Margaret HARRIOTT.

In their alliance with the Bunns, the bond was sealed with Rachel HARRIOTT marrying Thomas and with J.E. HARRIOTT, now a widower, marrying Frances BUNN.

It is a pleasure to hear from you Tom!

Your absolutely right; another one of my typos. I have made the correction. It’s usually Beth BALSILLIE who discovers my many typos and errors, I guess she missed that one (chuckle).

I don’t have a daughter Mary listed. When was she born and who did she marry?
Please tell us more about her, and about your family connections.

Gary: I believe this person could be referring to Thomas Bunn (born 1765 in England) and his 2nd wife Sarah McNab. Therefore the title "An Englishman in Rupertsland". Their daughter was Mary Bunn (born 1798) and married to William McKay (born 1793). Possible??

I totally agree Barry. I was hoping for a response from Loubel so I could verify what I have in that regard. More about that at this link:
