Hi Gary,
I noticed that John's brother Thomas who married Matilda Thomas had a son named William Moar. I think that one of Andrew's son's that died young was named William so it makes me wonder about the William that is on the census with Peter and Robert.
thanks

Colleen: I’m confused; I wasn’t aware that Matilda & Thomas MOORE (b-1802) had a son named William. What census are you referring to where he was with Peter and Robert?

Hi,
I also found a Richard Moore that i think was John and Nancy Moore's son as Nancy had a brother Richard so they could have named him after her brother, another note is that one of John and Nancy's sons went to Australia around the mid.1850's. The rumor was that he fled after an incident . This could be another reason that John was the only brother that retired to red river and why the name changed from Moar to Moore.
thanks

Colleen: Interesting - What kind of an ‘incident’ are your referring to ? Was Richard married of had any kids before he fled?

Also regarding your previous posting about Matilda & Thomas MOORE’s son William. I’m still trying to figure out who he was and what census you were referring to ?

Hi Gary,
I'm still finding my way around the forum and where to post.
To answer your question about Richard Moar, who i thinks was John and Nancy's son...I'm not even sure if that was his name but it looks like that was a son of theirs. I think i mentioned before, that my grandmother Mabel Moore received a letter from the Australian Gov't.,land was left to them from John Moar's son, this was in the 1930 and they couldn't go . Clarance Moore my uncle remembers the letter as he lived with his mother most of his life, except while away working.Again this is all here say, but there was a lady that worked at the Manitoba Geneology Society in Winnipeg and she said she was a descendant of the Moar/Fidler family and remembers this story being passed down in her family,so this makes me think he might have been married. This mistry man apparently killed a native man and to avoid the consequence he fled to Australia. I do know back then that is where they sent criminals but once there most of them were set free.
Also a note on Thomas Moar and Matilda's son William, i will look through my notes to see where i have that information on him, i know they were all baptized so maybe it wasn't a census but a baptismal. I'll get back to you later. thanks Colleen

In regard to John Moore's children- Louise who was b)1843-1846 she married John Richard Settee, i thinks his father was Reverand James Settee or Setter.

Charlotte who married Thomas Folster they moved to British Columbia, they had a daughter Jane who married Alexander Pruden, they also had a daughter margaret , a son william who d) 1955 in Hanley B.C. at age 72 he never married and also they a had a son James b)1872 who married Alfimay Anderson , this info. ,taken from online at B.C. delta Registration. Some of this info. i also got from Gail Morin's Metis Family's book, vol.4 page 492.

I might be able to shed some light on details around William Thomas Moar aka Moore born on 8 Jan 1863 in St Andrews, Manitoba (son of Thomas Moar and Elizabeth McKay).
William Thomas Moar was my great grandfather and arrived in Australia on board the "Miowera" on 8 Jan 1902. He is registered in the ships manifest as W Moore.

Record show he appeared on the 1881 census for St Andrews, Lisgar, Manitoba residing with John and Elizabeth McKay. In 1891 census he is still residing in St Andrews, Lisgar, Manitoba with his wife Jane and daughter Ethel.

I believe he had 3 wives (possibly 4). First was Elizabeth Ann Richards married on 18 Nov 1883. She died 9 Jan 1887. Then married Jane Marie Fidler on 12 Jan 1888 who died in 1890. He then met my great grandmother on the voyage to Australia and they married upon arrival in Sydney in Jan 1902. She was Elizabeth Alice Black born in Ontario.

It's possible he also married Jane McDonald in Canada 1890 although this has not been confirmed.

William Thomas Moore died in Australia 11 June 1940 and is buried in Katanning, Western Australia. He and Elizabeth Alice Black had 4 children born in Australia being; Amos Gaius, Elizabeth May, Miriam Ester and Silas James.

Amos Gaius born 1907 was my grandfather.

Apparently William Thomas Moore was known to have violent phases so I was interested to hear about the Moar who fled to Australia to avoid being prosecuted for killing a native. I believe that when he would go into a rage my great grandmother and the children would leave home and hide out for a few days to allow him to calm down.

Amos had 7 children, my mother Dorothy May being his eldest. She incidentally married Allen George Moore (my father) although they have the same surname, they are not related and his ancestry can be traced back to Dorset, England.

If anyone is interested I have more information about the Australian branch of the family.
