I think this Thomas Moore is a different family, my research tells me his father was John Moore/Moar that was born on 1777 in Orkney and retired to Red river in 1832. This Thomas was born 1830 and married Elizabeth Mckay . they had a son William Moore/Moar born 1863 at Red River. I found this out by researching my moore/Moar family. My ancestors were John Moore/Moar born 1803 and retired to red river in 1860, they did know each other according to Samuel Taylors diary but I could not put a connection to there fathers.Getting back to the missing ancestor of mine that fled to Australia , this incident happened at one of the northern posts of Hudson bay around 1835-1855 and your William wasn't born till 1863 , also this ancestor of mine must not have had a family or they all passed away as the letter was sent to his next of kin from the Australian gov't in the 1930's to Matlock were his brother was living although by then had passed away in 1925 his name was Robert so the letter than came to Roberts son Peter. The letter was to come and claim his estate which no one could in that era, the estate would have gone to his family if he had any in Australia which leads me to think he did not have a family.

For JC: Yes, that’s the John MOAR/ MOORE JR. who married Matilda MORRISEAU as shown in the narrative.

PS: JC – have you seen my new pages about your CYR ancestors? Looking forward to your comments there. Here’s the Link: LOUIS CYR (1777-1871)

My great grandfather Robert Moore/Moar's older brother John married Matilda Morriseau , there is a copy of their wedding cert. in the book Many Tender Ties, They moved around Dryden area in the 1865 ish . I will look at my papers when I get a chance and get the names of all their children and repost. John would be my great uncle. Their fathers name was John who married Nancy Thomas and his father was Andrew Moar who came from Orkney.

Thanks Colleen – Actually I have their children as Nancy (b-1869), Alexander (b-1871), Charles (b-1876) and Peter (b-1881).
Always interested in more other info about them though.
Were there other children?

Yes those are the names of their children and the dates they were born. Looks like Alexander had a son Thomas born 1888 and a son William born 1896. Alexander may have had 2 wives as his first wife's name was mary and the other was Catherin. I'm still going through my notes so i might come up with more.A little note from my uncle Clerance Moore who passed away last year at red River nurse home at the age of 93 told me that he new he had second cousins around the Dryden area and when he was there with work he was going to look them up but never did. At that time he would have been about 25.
One more other note: This John had a sister Louisa who married John richard Settee. She would have been my great aunt.
