Hi, is John James Smith (1791 - 1850) and William Robert Smith (1797 - 1869) are these two brothers. I read that my 4th GG William Robert Smith came on a boat with his brother from England but I am unable to find this document to support this information. Do you have any information on this by chance. Bonnie

Thanks Bonnie. Your William Robert is NOT a descendant of this John James SMITH, but as you say, he’s a descendant of William Robert SMITH (1797-1869) at this link:

Hi Gary.
Actually John James Smith is apparently the cousin of William Robert Smith (1797). Both were employed by HBC, and both settled initially in Lockport/Little Britain area. The problem for the Smith descendants is that we can't find records (UK) that can tell us who John James Smith father is. We know the William Robert Smith's father was William as well, but can't find records who his father, or siblings, might be. Hence we all get confused when it comes to the 'Smiths' in Red River.

William Robert Smith is my great-great-grandfather. His youngest son, Rupert, my great-grandfather. There are lots of stories, and a few books that refer to William Robert, but it would be nice if other members of the Smith's would be willing to respond with their information.

I have done another update of the Family Page for both of your ancestors (Bonnie & Barb):

Please post future comments under THAT Topic as descendants where they really belong to keep things organized.
