Captain Taylor and his country wife, Jane, had another son, John. In the Hudson Bay Company Archives Sept 5, 1809 [B198/1/55 fo 49d-50 "At 10 p.m. John Taylor the son of Mr. Geo. Taylor departed this life. He had suffered many months under pulmonary consumption which at last proved fatal from a dreadful effusion of blood causing suffocation, his Death much to be regretted as he was a very promising youth."
He was buried the next day.
His description as a "youth" implies some degree of age - 12 - 14 perhaps?

Welcome to the Forum Voyageur!

Thanks for that info which I wasn’t aware of. Is there a link to that source? The only one I have seen is this one: HBC ARCHIVES BIO of GEORGE TAYLOR

I don’t see a John mentioned in that particular bio.

P.S. Thanks for the donation; very much appreciated!

The source is the Hudson's Bay Company Archives, Record Group B [post records]. B.198 indicates post journals for Severn and the full citation is B198/a/55 fos. 49d-50.
I also have a photo of Captain Taylor's sea chest. How do I post photos from my own computer?

I thought I would reply with some information on George Taylor. My name is Stephen Taylor Smith and my Mother is Vera Margret Smith (Taylor) George would be my Great Great Grandfather, of course on my Mothers side. The picture of his sea chest on this site is actually mine. It was passed to me by by Mother who has been deceased for more than 15 years. I also have his silver shaving mug and a fairly good family tree as compiled by my brother in law. I have spoken via E mail to Ellen Paul in the past and unfortuantley, due to a computer failure, I lost her E mail address. I would like anyone who is interested in the Taylor family to contact me.

Thanks, Stephen T. Smith, Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia.

Since I cannot see Stephen Taylor Smith's email address on this forum, can I post my reply to him here?
To wit, Stephen, please forgive me for not attributing the photo to you.
On another topic, I am curious about the death date of George Taylor Sr. Which sources site 1838 and 1844? I think the 15 November 1844 date is the date of death of his son, George, at Red River. Widow Taylor also died in that same year which would be an incredible coincidence if they all died in November 1844.
