JAMES ASHAM (1823-1901)

New ASHAM Page: JAMES ASHAM (1823-1901)

Heather said: On the 1881 census it has both James ASHAM b 1823 and Elizabeth ASHAM born 1823 being born in NWT. On the death certificates, it lists James' place of birth as Norway House and Elizabeth's place of birth as Cumberland house Sask. Isn't this fun trying to verify everything?

In the old days the term NWT was a broad general term similar to Rupert’s Land which referred to a vast region. To my knowledge, the North West Territories that we know today was not established until many years later.

Where did you find the death certificates for Elizabeth and James? I would love to see them.

That’s just great Heather! You seem to have covered all the extra pertinent details which are precious, so there is no need for anything more. I have updated his page with some changes. Thanks very much!
