There seems to be some question about Lydia Tait. The Ontario Marriage record of James Porter and Lydia Tait in Stormont, Cornwall, Ontario on 17 Oct 1877, shows her parents as Peter Tait and Mary Minerva Moss. It also shows her birth place as Milleroches, Ontario in 1854.
So M M Tait would be Mary Minerva Moss.

In the Kipling Collection there is a burial record for a James Tait 75 years old buried in Oct 1875. This James Tait is the only James Tait in St Andrews in the 1870 Census. There is also only one James Tait of this age in the Manitoba Scrip records.
