My name is Ryan shelvey, my grandmother was Jessie Kennedy. Williams brother Philip was my great great great grandfather. Most of the family moved west to Saskatchewan around Prince Albert area. Grandma was born at duck lake, and is now resting at wyngard Saskatchewan. Many of the Kennedy's are there. I will be there in June to put my mother there with rest of family. I am always looking for more info on the family and any other descendents that might still be out there. Thank you so much for having this site.

Welcome to the Forum Ryan.
We need to know more about your lineage back to Philip. Who were your grandparents and great-great grandparents and when/ where were they born, etc., etc.?

A few more details about family connections for the PP: William Kennedy was uncle to Alexander Kennedy Isbister, who lived most of his life in London as a writer, lawyer and advocate for the Natives of Rupert's Land. Alexander never married, and moved his mother and sister (or two sisters?) to live with him in London.

Alexander was also uncle to Caroline Isbister Christie, who married Alexander Christie Jr, and there are letters from Caroline to Matilda Davis in the Matilda Davis papers at the Archives of Manitoba discussing her 'uncle' and her Kennedy family.

William & Eleanor's children both attended Matilda Davis's school at St. Andrew's, and there are several letters from Eleanor to Matilda in the Matilda Davis records at the Archives of Manitoba.

Thanks Ryan. I’m happy to say that all agrees with my information down to your Great Grandparents, William Frederick KENNEDY b-1787 who married Mary McKAY. What I don’t have is Mary McKAY’s parents – can you fill me in there?

I also have their children from the Census of 1921 in the Beardy-Okimasis Reserve which lists their children as twins Billy & Russell KENNEDY (both born 1915. I’m guessing your grandmother Mary Jessie must have been born after that. Can you tell me more about her and her husband?
The same census lists two step-children, namely Ethel McKAY b-1906 and Thomas McKAY b-1909, presumably Mary McKAY’s children from a previous relationship.

If Mary McKAY's father was Mr. McNAMERA, how did she get the surname McKAY?

John McNab ballenden McKay married Mary mccorrister their daughter Sarah McKay married William Kennedy. Mary Theresa(Anderson) McKay who married William Frederick Kennedy came upon the maiden name of McKay because her first marriage was to Thomas McKay, Sarah McKays brother.
