It's Laura May again, I am not sure how to reply to a specific post, but I wanted to comment on Bird's Hillian's post: I am Ruth Silde's niece, she was my mom's sister. We were very close, I miss her a lot! She was the family historian and I told her daughter Donna (my sweet cousin) that I would like to take over where Aunt Ruth left off!! Donna is going to get me as much of her Mum's paperwork as she can find. I live in California and Donna lives in Birch Hills (where Aunt Ruth lived most of her life). Anyway, it is so nice to hear her name and to know you read her book and learned something about our family!

Welcome to the Forum Laura! Would love to hear more about your own ancestral line.

Who were your closest BIRD ancestors in Canada? Birth dates and places are important. I have lots of information about most of the BIRD lineages. There is a very good chance that you have other Cree ancestors as well.

Thanks Laura. I have quite a bit of info on the John Thomas BIRD Family. If I can find some time I will do a page for them. Right now I have other priorities to work on.

That would be wonderful Gary, thank you. For now, I'm just trying to find out if any of the Birds were "registered" as status Indians. I am pretty sure my mom was not, nor was her mom. So John Thomas Bird would be the next down the line. If there was an online registry or something like that, I could check. Meanwhile, I just keep researching, your information has certainly helped!

Hello! Does anyone know how William Bird died (1803-1885)? I just noticed the year he died coincides with the Metis 1885 battle at Batoche. Was he involved, is this how he died?

William Bird, son of James Curtis lived and worked in Edmonton, AB. There seems to be some confusion about this on Red River Ancestry. He was the owner of Bird's Mill on Mill Creek, a grist mill that was a failure due to the lack of consistency in the flow of the creek.

Thank you for your reply, Bird. I would love to hear as much as you know about any of the Bird Family. William was my great, great grandfather, James Curtis my third-great grandfather.

lauramay, we must be very closely related, as James was my third great grandfather, and William my 2nd great grandfather, then John Thomas Bird as my great grand father and Francis Bird was my grandfather.

Also, I am not sure if any were registered indians, that is my fathers area of knowledge, but I have my Metis status, so there must be some evidence somewhere.
