Hi Gary

Is this the James Omand who is discribed in this HBC "bio". http://www.gov.mb.ca/chc/archives/hbca/ ... _james.pdf

Secondly, is this the James Omand who marries Jane Brown?

Good morning Gary,

In your bio of James Omand, you write that his wife, Jane Brown, was the daughter of Elizabeth and Joseph Brown (the schooner master). R. Leslie Taylor, in his book The Native Link, suspects that Jane Brown was the country-wife of William Brown (d. 1827) who returned to Scotland from Norway House with their son David in 1826.

I was wondering which of these lines of thought might be the correct one.

I haven't seen that book.
My information is primarily based on his bio of Joseph BROWN in the Hudson's Bay Company Archives. Here's the link:

Thanks for the link. I believe you're right about the Joseph Brown being the father of Jane Brown. Now there's a whole new line of descendancy to follow.
