Beth: Please got to this link: JAMES SINCLAIR (1811-1856)

There you will find a link to the article you just outlined and my understanding regarding the origins of the John FLETT who wrote it.

Hi Gary,
The reason for my earlier e-mail was I wasn't sure which "heading" I should pose my questions to. I have figured it out the answer and this is my report:

The Red River’s
Three Little Girls Named
Sarah Flett

1) Sarah (Sally) Flett baptized on 30 June 1835 at the Rapids, daughter of William (B) Flett (1786-1852) born in Scotland and Betsy (1787-1847). This Sarah grew up in St Andrews, Manitoba and later married James Franks (1813-1885). Her census always notes that her father was born in Scotland.
2) Sarah Flett baptized 13 Dec 1835, daughter of William Flett (1809-1851) born in Saskatchewan and Margaret McNab (1807-1838). She made the incredible journey from the Red River Settlement to Fort Vancouver, Washington, USA in 1841 with her father and her grandmother, Saskatchewan. Her father William Flett later moved the family to California in 1849 for the Gold Rush. Sarah met and married a Canadian named Napoleon Bonaparte McGillivray (1825-1906) in 1853. She always claims in her census that her parents were born in Eng Canada.
3) Sarah Flett(e) baptized 20 Oct 1839, daughter of John Flett (1815-1892) and Charlotte Bird (1822-1851). She too made the incredible journey to Oregon in 1841 with her parent, uncles and family. Her parents settled in the Oregon Territory where she met and married Thomas Brown (1811-1890).
All three of these girls married very prominent men and have descendants living today.

Thanks so much Beth for getting these Sarah’s sorted out. I’m sure this will be a big help when I work on the other families involved.
I have updated this narrative accordingly.

Gary: If this William Flett was married to a woman known only as Betsy, which William Flett was married to Jane Jennie Cook (B: 1787), daughter of William Hemmings Cook? Barry.

We’re really off-topic here Barry. That appears to be an error in the WILLIAM HEMMINGS COOK Page, and I have removed it. Thanks for noticing.

Gary: Off-topic?? I thought this was geneology we are doing. When I see a glitch in historical data, I WILL try to resolve the issue. If my data is in error, as this was, I am more than happy to have someone correct it for me. I try to be as close to correct as I can. Call it anal. I hope you feel the same way about a project you have put this much time and effort into. I have contacted you several times over the last few years. I will continue to be in touch. Happy hunting................Barry.

I am trying to trace the ancestors of my Great Aunt Nellie Flett b1895 d1974 who married Alexander George Bugler b1892 d1974 in Winnipeg in 1912.
I believe her ancestors were as follows and I would be grateful if anyone can confirm the information for me please.
Nellie's parents were William Flett b1855 d1940 and Harriett Morwick b1862.
William's parents were James Flett b1829 d1912 and Margaret Birston 1838 d1892.
James's parents were William Flett b1786 d1852 and Betsey b1787 d1847.
Any help would be appreciated as I live in South Wales in the UK so I am dealing with this remotely.
Many thanks Sheila

Welcome to the Forum Sheila!
I can confirm that your ancestral listing matches very well with what I have right down to Alexander George BUGLER.
Tell us more about your FLETT connections relating to your aunts.

Thank you Gary. I am glad that what I have so far seems to be correct. To be honest I know very little about Nellie Flett and as she seemed to come from quite an interesting family I decided to find out what I could about her and her ancestors. My mother, Elsie Bugler b 11.7.1924 Canada d 29.8.1986 Cheam, England, was Nellie and Alexander's niece and used to recount the story about 'Grandma Flett paddling her canoe down the Hudson River'. It seems there may be some truth in that.
In case it is of interest to you or anybody else Alexander George Bugler was born in Fulham, London 19.7.1892 and died in Hartford, Washington, Wisconsin on 29.7.1974. He emigrated to Canada under the East End Emigration Fund London in 1910 and married Nellie Flett on 4.4.1912 in Winnipeg. He had two brothers, Richard Egbert Bugler b Fulham June 1898 d 10.1.1930 Winnipeg, and Frederick Augustus Bugler b Fulham 6.3.1896 d 30.8.1958 Cheam, England. All three brothers allegedly did not get on with their father Richard Bugler b 8.2.1861 London d Sep 1926 London and one by one they all emigrated to Canada. My grandfather Frederick and his immediate family returned to the UK on 23.9.1938.
The three brothers also had a half brother, Arthur Bugler, who was the son of Richard Bugler and an Emma Lewis.
I have a wealth of information about the Bugler family so if anyone reading this wishes to know any more I will be happy to help. I will also let you know if I find out anything else about Nellie Flett.
