I live on Rainy Lake (known as Lac le Pluie during the fur trade era) and my Dad lives on the Rainy River in Fort Frances and I find it so fascinating that Patrick Cunningham was stationed at the HBC fort in the Rainy Lake/Rainy River area.
I wonder how many times he would have passed down the Rainy River in front of my childhood home which was about 1.5 km west of the Hudson Bay Co post or past my house 1 km from the mouth of the Rainy River.
The NWC post was probably 1 km south of the HBC post and I have seen quite a few fur trade era relics that residents have found on the river banks including soap stone carvings, musket barrels, musket shot, etc
