There is a letter in the Matilda Davis School Collection, from William Mason to Miss Davis, dated 29th June 1871, and sent from 6 Thorne Road, South Lambeth, London.

Mason writes in response to news that his daughter, Janet, (seemingly a student at the Davis school) has "suffered a relapse" and is dying. He says that he left Janet in Davis' care in the hope that the climate would help her health, and that her uncle, William Thomas, said that he would take her in if she suffered another relapse.

This would indicate then that Janet was another child of William Mason and Sophia Thomas, although I'm not sure how that fits in with the timeline of the family travels. Did they leave her behind when the rest of the family moved to England? Or did Mason only take some of his children with him?

I'll keep my eye out for any further info on the Mason children.

Thanks Erin: I have added Janet into the list I had. We’re still missing a few nevertheless.

-Another Mason child. Sophia Thomas Mason's youngest child, born three months before her death is:

Caroline Anne Maude Mason
in the London, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906
Name: Caroline Anne Maude Mason
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 21 Sep 1861
Father's name: William Mason
Mother's name: Sophia Mason
Parish or Poor Law Union: Kensington St Paul
Borough: Kensington and Chelsea
Register Type: Parish Registers

-Also, an 1861 letter from Mary Sinclair Christie to Matilda Davis (Matilda Davis Papers, Archives of Manitoba) confirms that Sophia Thomas Mason had nine living children at the time of her death. Christie was visiting Britain at the time.

-William Mason is in the 1871 census, but is not living with any of his children. He's listed as a widower, and his occupation as "missionary Rupert's Land"
