Hi, I have a question: The double wedding in 1827 is Thomas and his son, John. Thomas married Margaret. What happened to Mary?

"Around 1801 Thomas was 'country wed' to Mary, a Saulteaux Indian. On May 10, 1802 their first child, daughter Sarah was born at Berens River." Is this Thomas' wife?

No – like it says, Sarah was Thomas’ daughter. She later married Andrew McDERMOT

Is Thomas' wife Mary Saulteaux 1786-1856,country wed in 1801, or is it Margaret from the double wedding in 1827? That's where I'm confused.

I believe the Thomas referred to there must have been Thomas Jr. b-c1807 who later married Harriet WEST.

In another post dated May 28 (2021), I invited anyone who might know to hopefully verify or disprove that Thomas Bird, a son of James Curtis Bird, was the father of my great grandmother, Sarah Anne Barcelo (née Bird).

I was recently given some interesting information that is very pertinent to this thread concerning Thomas McNab.

As I mentioned in that previous post, the mother of Sarah Anne Barcelo (née Bird) was apparently Ellen (Helena) McDermot, a daughter of Andrew McDermot.

And of course, Ellen McDermot's mother was Andrew's wife, Sarah McDermot (née McNab), the daughter of Thomas McNab Sr. (born 1782), the titular subject of this thread.

Well, that means that Thomas's wife Mary Jane, the Indigenous Salteaux woman, was the great grandmother of Sarah Anne Barcelo (née) Bird, my great grandmother.

What makes this especially interesting to me is that I have read (for example, here) that Mary Jane (the Indigenous Salteaux woman) was a daughter of a fairly historically significant Ojibway chief by the name of Kechewaishke.

So there is all of that very possible genealogy for Sarah Anne Barcelo (née Bird) extending back to her great great grandfather through her mother, yet I just cannot manage to find proof that James Curtis Bird's son Thomas Bird was her father.

Nevertheless, it is rather intriguing that I may well have Ojibway Chief Kechewaishke as a great great great great great grandfather!
