Searching line of Henry pruden B. 1878

Post by ACDewan » Mon Aug 11, 2014 8:57 pm

I am trying to determine if I am on the right path and I was hoping if someone could clarify if Henry Pruden B.1878 had a son Charles Pruden B.1906 (married Bernadette Landry?)
I can not find any records of the children he had with Mary Jane Delorme.
This is how I have traced it please feel free to tell me if I have the entirely wrong family, so far everything has lined up but I am feeling so lost with all this info:

John peter Pruden B. 1778 > son William Pruden B. 1804 > Cornelius Pruden B. 1831 > son Henry Pruden B. 1878 > son Charles Pruden B. 1906?

I appreciate any i site.

Thank you so much this site is wonderful!!

According to my information you seem to be on the right track. In the 1911 census Charles (age 5) and his parents were boarding with James William BALLENDINE (b-1871) in the Town of Battleford, SK.

Hi ACDewan
Yes you are on the right track.
First) Henry Pruden was born Aug 2, 1876 at Eagle Creek, Saskatchewan. This was found in his scrip affidavit: http://collectionscanada.gc.ca/pam_arch ... 74,4577298

Next) Please check out familysearch.org , genealogies search for Henry Pruden – father Cornelius Pruden. I have been transferring all my research there so it will be free for anyone to see. I have a small glitch – if I do not have a date of death , my program thinks they are living and so the following four children are not listed yet:
Harry Johnson Pruden born Apr 16, 1908
Marion Lillian “Lilly” Pruden born Jan 1910
Edward “Eddie” Pruden born abt 1912
Lydia Pruden born abt 1916

Last) I found this on Ancestry.ca:

From the book "Footsteps in Time"
HISTORY OF HENRY PRUDEN AND SARAH JANE (MARY) DELORME:
(From the book "Footsteps in Time" (p.228) published in 1980 by the Meota
History Book Committee, printed by Friesen Printers in Altona Manitoba;
ISBN: 0-88925-208-4 ----- Research of Eileen Horan)

Henry Pruden (son of Cornelius Pruden & Jane Rowland) originally came
from the district of Bresaylor (Saskatchewan) to Cochin. He married Mary
Jane (Sarah) Delorme (daughter of Charles Delorme and Isabelle Piche) in
Battleford. Henry Pruden, as a young man, was appointed as Overseer and
Caretaker for the Department of Indian Affairs --- to look after the
registered cattle and bulls on a location, 2 1/2 miles north of Cochin, by
the little Lakes along the highway. He and his wife lived in a log house
there and it is said that many a weary traveller rested at their home and
enjoyed their hospitality. Mrs George Strong gave us an account of such
true neighbourliness.

In 1917, the Bull barn was moved to the George Day Farm and the house was
moved to Cochin, which in turn became Mrs Heno's Stopping Place. All this
happened when the Department of Indian Affairs decided to dismantle the
place. (This was when the Moosomin Reserve was moved from Highgate District
to the Cochin area, during 1912-1917. Mr Pruden was then appointed Indian
Farm Instructor on the Moosomin Reserve. Edward Rotsey Senior was appointed
as the Teacher at the Mission School (serving until 1914). The combined
Church and School had been built by the Reverend Father Lacombe in 1911.
Among some of the children attending the school were the: Rotsey, Nolin,
Bigear, Moy, Landry, Whitecap, Baptiste, and Albert children).

In 1921, Henry bought the poolroom from Mr Dunbar. He then traded the
building to J.P. George Day for a 1/4 section of land in the Murray Lake
District. It was at Murray Lake, that Henry and his wife lived for many
years and raised their large family. In later years, they sold the farm
and moved to North Battleford. By then, their family was pretty well grown
up. Four of the boys enlisted in the armed forces, during the Second World
War, with some serving in Italy and France.

Archie, Laurence (Larry), and Eddie married English girls before
returning to Canada, after the War. Charles married a local girl,
Bernadette Landry. The oldest son, Donald, lived for a few years in Cochin
and did farm labor until he found employment with the Canadian National
Railway as a Maintenance Man --- a job he held, until retirement. Donald
married Lena Paquette and raised a large family who are now scattered in the
western provinces. Donald and Lena were living in Portage la Prairie,
Manitoba, in 1980. All the Pruden children and grandchildren were raised
by God-fearing parents and are a credit to their efforts.

Note: I am still trying to figure out were "Mary" came from in Sarah Jane Delorme's name. In all the many records I have found for her, never once have I found the name "Mary".
Happy Hunting,
Beth

Hi not sure where to put this reply but this is my family. My grandparents actually. You are missing two kids, one of which was my dad, Earl Joseph Cornelius Pruden. Born May 8, 1925 and died July 24, 1986. And my uncle Fred.
I have more detail I can provide and my cousin Ray Gagne, son of Lydia has more detail on cousin names. Actially he did extensive research of our family back to Louis Riel involvement as well that may be helpful. He is 85 now but I could get you in touch with him.
Can we connect via email so find this difficult to communicate through.
