Previous (Feb 8, 2015) posting by Heather McDobie under the old Asham PRINCE Topic:

Hi Gary - Since we had decided that Asham Prince and Price Asham ( Isham, Ashim) are the one and the same, I found James McKillip's thesis on Norway House:
http://www.ruor.uottawa.ca/bitstream/10393/... ... thesis.pdf
He mentions "Price Isham" and also "Huggy Isham" who I think is a nickname for Price Isham based on the Norway House Debt records:

“Kishecaethin, Huggemowappew [Price Isham], Thomas Isham, Wm. Leask [father-in-law of Price Isham?], Mantootackoos [brother-in-law of Thomas Isham]” were listed in that order in the Norway House Debt List. (PAM, HBCA, B.154/d/3b, p. 36, Norway House Account Book, 1816/1817, kept by James Kirkness, mf. 1M541).

In the spring of 1832, “Hoggee” [Price Isham] was sent from the post “with Supplies of ammunition to Curly Heads party at the Grand Rapid and to bring back their winter hunts.” In September 1832, “Curly Head and his Sons went off to the Grand Rapids after getting their winter Supplies” and in March 1833, “Sent Hoggee and Custatag off towards Moose Lake to look after Curly Heads band with supplies of Ammunition, and to bring home the few furs they might have collected in course of the winter. They returned in April “with 170 Made Beaver in Furs.” from the Frontier School DivisionSocial Studies/Native Studies Department.

Price Isham is in the Red River Settlement Census for 1838, 1840, and 1843. He lives and farms 2 acres in Swampy Village.

Thanks Ken. I have added that to the narrative.
Do you have a link or source URL for those early census records?

My source is "Red River Settlement Census - An Index to the Census for the years: 1827, 1828, 1829, 1830, 1831, 1832, 1833, 1835, 1838, 1840, and 1843" Compiled by Gail Morin in 1998. Published by Quintin Publications, Inc.. Be sure to read the forward that explains the exclusions of each census. For example the Swampy Indian Settlement is only included in 1835, 1838, 1840, and 1843. Grantown is not always included.

The Isham's are a bit mixed up. For example two Charles Isham's are listed; one at the Indian Village and another living with P Henderson. The details are a bit shuffled between the 2.

Gary, you do such great work. Can I recommend you explicitly claim the copyrights on each one of your pages. Davidita on Ancestry has posted an almost full copy of your John Lambert page on Ancestry.ca but doesn't include any source info. Now I think about, I may be guilty too.

Ken,
We all do so much Great work. I would rather see our work copied than the old bad information and assumptions. For me facts are facts, and the Icelandic side of me needs to post history as is. I am very proud to see my information posted. I believe there is only one family tree and we are all in it. I am very happy to share it with anyone. I am just as guilty as you, and Gary has used my info too.

I have to fully agree Beth - well said! I often refer to your work (because it’s dependable), and to Ken’s as well. It is the truth that we strive for, wherever we find it. I do always try to refer to my sources, but probably forget sometimes, and I always appreciated it when people acknowledge me as well. That’s what makes all the work satisfying and worthwhile.

I have to agree. I want to try to reference my sources more. On Lang Family Tree on Ancestry.ca I've created a source for the "Red River Ancestry of Manitoba" so I can reference this source. This way updates to the source are available to future readers. The only problem is if Gary changes the URL or takes down the site, I'm toast. That leads to more discussions for another time.
