I just posted a new Family Page that should be of interest; here's the link: LOUIS SIMARD (1882-?)

I could use some help with that one. Some of the details are rather fuzzy.

Hi Gary, Yes I'm Sharron's cousin. Her mother was my Dad's younger sister. He's the last surviving member of their family (He's 91).

Re John Sinclair. He was born about 1794, the names of his parents unknwn. His age in the 1849 Red River census was listed as 55 years. The baptism record of his daughter Maria in 1829 (St. John's Baptisms 1828-1879) indicated he was a York Factory labourer. He was in Red River in the late 1840s. There is no further record of hime after 1849.

Re his wife Charlotte Sinclair. In Maria's baptism record she is listed as a "half caste" and her name was not recorded. In the 1870 Red River Census she was living with her son Jacob Sinclair in St. Peter's. His father was listed as John Sinclair. This would make him Maria's brother and his mother would be John's wife. The census records Charlotte's father as unknown. She died in 1885 at St. Peter's and her death record listed her as 90 years and her place of birth as York Factory (St. Peter's Burials 1884-1888).

Re Francis Sinclair. Very little is known about him as well. His burial record in 1890 lists his age as 78 and he was born at "Hudson Bay" (St. Peter's Dynevor Burials 1888-1913). He was born about 1812. His place of birth was probably the York Factory area as the 1875 Half-Breed Affidavit of his daughter Harriet records the place of birth in 1842 as York Factory. According to the affidavit Francis moved to Norway House about 1843 and then to Red River the next year. The 1870 Red River Census records Francis' father as unknown.

Re Maria Sinclair. Her burial record lists her age as 78 years and place of birth at York Factory. She was born in 1821. (St. Peter's Dynevor Buriald 1888-1913). The 1870 Red River census lists her father as John Sinclair. She died in 1899 in St. Peter's.

I hope this answers some of your questions re the Sinclair. Warren Sinclair

Warren: Thanks very much for all that information (you have obviously been a busy man); it will be an excellent source to refer to in later discussions. There are several details that differ from what I have, but I much prefer to deal with one family (or Family Page) at a time to avoid confusion.

For starters, you have Louis SIMARD married in Fort Alex to Suzanne GUIMOND b-1884 as daughter of Suzanne FINLAYSON & Pierre GUIMOND (1884-1915). I have a Suzanne GUIMOND b-1897 married to Louis SIMARD JR (b-1882)
Widow Susan would have been about 27 years old in 1906. Louis SIMARD SR would have been about 49 years old; Louis SIMARD JR about 24 years old. Both Louis Sr and Louis Jr were widowers, but it seems more likely that the younger Louis was the elligible contender for marriage.

In this regard, please check the following links and comment under the preset Forum Topics provided for each:

Hi Gary, The marriage between Susanne Guimond and Louis Simard Sr was based on 2 sources. In 1972 I did a family tree as a high school project. I interviewed my grandmother, Catherine Simard (Louis' daughter) and she told me Louis was married 3 times: Elizabeth Cochrane, then Susan and then Flora. Louis and Susan were married for 2 years and had a daughter Susan. Re Louis Jr she said he was married twice: first to Mary Cochrane and then Liza Peebles. Keep in mind that my grandmother was alive at the time. the second source was a letter from the Roman Catholic Rectory in Fort Alexander and dated 19 Sep 1974. It varified that Louis Simard had three wives and included a married certificate between Louis and Susanne Guimond. Warren Sinclair

Boyoboyoboy! You guys have got me pulling my hair out (what’s left of it)! I’m finding a lot of conflicting information about all these families. It will take me a lot of time to review everything properly and sort things out; time that I just don’t have right now. Sorry, but I will have to put this one on the back-burner for a while. When I do come up with some better info, I will get back to you.

I would like you to take a look at something I’m busy at these days that you might be able to help me with. There are several SINCLAIR families involved that you may know something about. Here’s the link:JOHN JAMES STEVENSON (1875-?)

If you do know anything, please post it under the Topic indicated there.

My mistake Beth; thanks for pointing that out. You're my favorite proof-reader. I meant Betsy and have made the correction.
