Wow - no replies at all regarding Jane. I really don't know if I belong here either, however, I descend from Ellen Kennedy and Joseph Whitford. I have been searching for years to find Ellen's parents. Is it possible that Jane was her mother? If anyone can help me with this problem, I would certainly appreciate it. Many thanks.

Of course we don’t have any proof of Ellen’s origins, but it does seem like a distinct possibility that she was Jane’s child.

I have just two children for Ellen KENNEDY and Joseph WHTIFORD: Elizabeth WHITFORD who married Thomas SINCLAIR and Ellen WHITFORD b-1841.

Are you a SINCAIR descendant? Tell us more about your own lineage.

I actually have 5 children listed for Joseph Whitford and Ellen Kennedy. Elizabeth, Sarah, Elenor, Joseph and Mary. A number of years ago, I wrote to the Diocese of Rupert's Land inquiring about the family. I did receive a reply back, however, my own Elizabeth's baptism was not recorded. I was not worried about it because I had found her scrip record.

Ellen Kennedy and Joseph Whitford would be my 4 times great grandparents, and Elizabeth Whitford and Thomas Sinclair my 3 times great grandparents. I would love to find Thomas Sinclair's parents. I have not yet been able to identify them.

I have your Thomas SINCLAIR born somewhere around 1840, perhaps in the St Peters Indian Settlement, but so far cannot determine who his parents were.

I do have a Thomas SINCLAIR who was born on Apr 9, 1841, son of Hannah CUMMINGS and Thomas SINCLAIR SR (1812-1846). In 1875 this Tom married Alice DAVIS who died in 1880, and in 1882 he re-married to Harriet Marie TRUTHWAITE by whom he had four children between 1883 and 1889.

Your Tom’s children were born between 1859 and 1876, and I suppose the above Tom could have had children with Elizabeth WHITFORD prior to those marriages. I can’t find any other Thomas SINCLAIR born around that time.

How does your own lineage descend from Thomas SINCLAIR?

I descend through Thomas Sinclair and Elizabeth Whitford. These folks had the following children: Thomas - 1859, Elizabeth - 1860, William - 1865, Caroline - 1866, Ellen Agatha - 1867, Samuel - 1869, Alexander - 1872, Jeremiah - 1874 and (Ann) Harriet - 1876. (Ann) Harriet was known as Harriet and I believe is buried at St. Peters Chuch.

Harriet, was my great great grandmother. She married Hugh McDonald in 1893. Together they had one daughter Catherine Elizabeth McDonald in 1893. Harriet died at the Mayo residence in 1896. Catherine Elizabeth was removed from the Mayo residence by her father, Hugh McDonald, and taken to Norway House (Warrens Landing), where Hugh was the lighthouse keeper.

Elizabeth married James Robertson and they had the following children: Ila Ramona, Hattey (Harriet) and Horace.

It was stated in the scrip record that Harriet and Catherine Elizabeth were staying with their uncle through marriage, Charles Edwin Mayo. I need to find out how Charles Edwin Mayo was this said uncle. I do believe that may help in solving the Thomas Sinclair mystery. If Caroline Mayo was a true aunt, I might be able to find a hint through there. What do you think?

It's my understanding that the Isabella Kennedy who married George Setter was the daughter of Alexander Kennedy, sister of Captain William Kennedy, and aunt of Alexander Kennedy Isbister.

Elizabeth Setter, the daughter of George and Isabella, married John Norquay. The marriage date you list for Isabella Kennedy, daughter of Jane Kennedy (1855), doesn't align with the birth dates of Elizabeth Setter.

You have the same info in your post on George Setter here: http://www.redriverancestry.ca/SETTER-GEORGE-1815.php
