Grantown to Honour Scottish-Aboriginal Fur Trade Cousins

Grantown On Spey was established in1765. 2020 will be the their mother of all birthday celebrations and you are invited to participate.

It is often said that Scotland's greatest export has been its people. The celebratory project, "COUSINS" will honour those Scotts and their Aboriginal partners of the Canadian Fur Trade. This is a huge project and your participation is welcome. Stay tuned. More details to follow.

It is well known many Canadians, including Aboriginals, have served in the military overseas. Another project relates to those who have served with No 14 Company of the Canadian Forestry Corps. The following call for input and photos was recently posted in the Tomintoul newspaper.

If you have photos and/or information please contact Eileen Stewart at: e300@btinternet.com

The Sawdust Fusiliers
In the Spring 2012 edition of this newsletter there was a mention of the Canadian Camp at Boat of Garten where the saw mill is now. Please does anyone have any further information about No 14 Company of the Canadian Forestry Corps known popularly as "The Sawdust Fusiliers"? No 20 Company camp was at Nethy. In 2020 a special celebration is being planned of the ongoing relationship between Canada and this particular area of Scotland. If anyone has family connections or knows stories that deal with emigrants and settlers or business and wartime co-operation and would like this to be included please could they be kind enough to contact Eileen Stewart e300@btinternet.com. Thank you
