My Grandpa Brian Demeria born 1942 still living Grandpa said they changed his name in the hospital and they stuck with it not sure if this is a true story
His Dad name was Pierre Desmarias b 1888 d 1978 he married Rita Mae Russell b 1916 d 1997
His dad was Thomas H Desmarias b1850 d 1942 he married Marie Ann Campbell b1867 d 1951
His dad was Absolom Larcoque b 1838 no other information and he married Eliza Desmarias b 1838 which is the daughter of John and Sophia

I find this fascinating that she named her son with her maiden last name I was wondering if there was something we could unearth?

Welcome to the Forum Cassandra and thanks for that information. I have begun to check my files regarding the lineage as you have presented it.

In 1875 Jean Baptiste listed his 10 children as I have shown in his narrative, He has Fanny born in 1838 but NO Elizabeth. What was your source for Elizabeth as his child?

Wow amazing for the Henry Thomas page! You do such a amazing project with this whole website

I talked to my mom's cousin she said she receive her information at Geneaological Centre at the Glenbow Museum - they have an extensive collection of Metis resources. One researcher years ago traced back the family tree of as many Metis families as he could. She photocopied the key pages related to our family - the Jean Baptiste branch. Eliza's story is particularly interesting because she never changed her name but ''she was married in the custom of the time". She assume that means she was shacked up with a man and had children. Lol

Hi,

My name is Brigette Demerais and I am a direct descendant of Jean Baptiste Desmarais and currently a citizen of the MNS. My dad is Daryl Demerais, born in Prince Albert, SK in 1960; my grandpa is Napoleon Herbert Ross Demerais, born in 1935? at John Smith Reserve SK; my great grandfather is Albert Demerais, born in 1900 at Coxby SK; my great great grandfather is Thomas William Desmarais, born in 1854 at Portage La Prairie, and his father was Jean-Baptiste Desmarais.

I would love to know where the rest of my family is, because currently I only know my aunts, uncles, and first cousins! email me at bdemerais@gmail.com if you want to say hi or have any info on my family.

Maarsi,

Brigette
