Thanks to enlightenment provided by Beth Balsillie, please note that I have removed my statement regarding William in the 1881 census with his Uncle Roderick.
Also note that there are some details to iron out regarding Roderick the child, and William Roderick, the nephew. It appears that both Roderick’s were born around the same time and it has caused a lot of confusion.

Hi Gary,
William Roderick Ross's family page looks great! Thank you!
In the HBC record for Roderick Ross, Sr, it says that Roderick Ross was one of his children born April 1869. I was pretty sure that it was my great grandfather William Roderick Ross because he was also born in April (or late March) of that same year.

William Roderick Ross named his son (my grandfather) Herbert McKenzie Ross. Now, I know what the McKenzie link is.

Leila Ross- I have a copy of her death certificate- November 27, 1915
She died of pulmonary tuberculosis
She was born in Ontario (no town listed)= May 20, 1869
Father- Mr. Young
Birthplace of father- Cannot say
Mother- Miss Cameron
Birthplace of mother- Canada

That's all the information that I have on Leila Ross.

Sorry folks, I screwed up by showing a picture of Premier Richard McBRIDE which I erroneously labeled as our William. I have removed it, and added a link to a bio for Premier McBRIDE which shows a similar photo to the one I removed.

Sally - New Family Page for your Grandparents at this link:
HERBERT MACKENZIE ROSS (1895-1949)

I’m sure you have lots of stuff that could be added to that one.

Thanks, Gary! The page on my grandfather looks great. He died before I was born. My mother has dementia and can no longer give me details about him.
This is what I know…
He was an amateur boxer. His profession was a geological engineer. He and my grandmother moved to Powell River so that he could oversee the mines. He was then transferred to Lima, Peru (with his family) to oversee the mining there. After 7 years, the family moved to London, England. (1928?) He and my grandmother were offered a contract to go to Hollywood and be in 'the pictures.'(probably a family myth but they were both very good-looking) In the 1930's, he travelled (without his family) to the African Gold Coast to oversee the mines. He contracted tuberculosis (which eventually kiilled him) and moved back to London, England.
World War II broke out. He and my grandmother moved to Oxstead because of the bombing. Their house was a short distance away from where the Seaforth Highlanders were stationed. My grandfather had known my grandfather on my father's side (John Arthur "Artie" Clark) in WW I. J.A. Clark's son, Donald Clark (my father) was staying with the Seaforths and through the connection, met my mother, Joan Napier Ross.

Leila Evelyn Young's parents are Annie Maria Cameron (1834 Pointe-Fortune Quebec) and James Young (1816-1872)
Also, I believe Beatrice's year of birth is 1908

Sally – I am moving your comments to the Topic that has been created for discussing THAT Family. I will get back to you on all that later there (lots of interesting things for me to check out first). Here’s the link:
FORUM DISCUSSING THE HERBERT MACKENZIE ROSS FAMILY
I’m always trying to keep things organized to avoid confusing people with all these different Family Pages to deal with.

Beth Balsillie to the rescue again! Thanks so much Beth for getting me on that track with the YOUNG ancestors. I have updated the narrative accordingly. Lot’s of interesting stuff there for another day.

Regarding Beatrice’s birth:
Census 1911: Beatrice Vivian (age 23) with parents in Victoria, BC
U.S. Border Crossings: July 27, 1933 arrival at Niagara Falls, NY: M Beatrice ROSS, born Jan 25, 1888 in Toronto. Departure contact: Aunt Mrs. Isabel BELL

Gary,
Your welcome. I noticed every one’s trees ends with one of these names and that none of them have connected any of them together.
Yes I am right, Beatrice Vivian Ross in the 1911 census says year of birth 1908, age 2#.
New York Passenger Lists:
Name: Beatrice Vivian Ross, nurse
Arrival Date: 19 Sep 1933
Birth Date: abt 1908
Birth Location: Canada
Birth Location Other: fernie,bc
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Ethnicity/ Nationality: English
Port of Departure: Le Havre, France
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Ile de France
Maybe she was a globe trotter like her brother.
Beth

Beth - You have a better eye than I. I rechecked that 1911 census record and you are absolutely right. I have made the change.
