Hi I'm new here and a little confused. Did Samuel Favel have a son named Samuel who married Margaret Stanley? Or did Samuel Favel born 1820 marry Margaret Stanley after marrying Elizabeth Irvine?

In the 1881 Census of Canada in the Northwest Territories I found Samuel Favel 61 years old married to Peggy 52 years old. They were living at the Whitefish Lake Mission. Erastus Favel 24 years old is in this household. This is my family. But I haven't been able to find any records other than this census to indicate if Samuel is my great grandfather Erastus's biological dad. Or if Erastus's dad was a man named Snake. I found a record in Saskatchewan that listed Peggy and Erastus Snake as having land together as beneficiaries of Peggy's son Abraham.

Where did you find Samuel Favel jr?

Hi Joyce.
I've updated Ancestry.ca with as much as I could find on Erastus Samogan Snake Favel. He was born about 1856 in Saskatchewan district, Rupert's Land, British North America to Snake (-abt 1866) and Maria Margaret Peggy Stanley (1840-1909). You found him at Whitefish Lake in 1881. Maria Margaret Peggy Stanley (1840-1909) said she was married to Samuel Favel 2 years before Abraham Favel was born, so 1874.
Erastus metis scrip claim says he was living at Whitefish Lake Reserve on 1 Sep 1900. 1901 census says he is at Saddle Lake. 1906, Whitefish Lake. 1911, Saddle Lake Reserve. 1916 Whitefish Lake Reserve. 1921 Whitford Lake Reserve. He died at Good Fish reserve 15 May 1937. Most natives did not have the right to vote so he doesn't appear in the 1935 voter's list.
I'm not sure when he married Evangeline Na-Ne-Kut-Awap/Nomekatawant Sparklingeyes (1861-1948). Before 1890?.

Please note that the Saskatchewan District, Rupert's Land is the area around the Saskatchewan River Watershed from the joining of the North and South Saskatchewan to the mountains in the west and South to the 49th parallel. Before 1814 war, it would have continued south to the Missouri River Watershed (Milk River watershed specifically).
