I am trying to obtain information on a Turner who lived in southern Saskatchewan in about 1923-24. All I know about him is that he worked on a farm owned by Napoleon Fauchon near Kincaid Saskatchewan. He was probably a young man who may have come from the area. He left the farm in 1924.
I don't even know his first name. does anyone have information on the south Sask Turners?

Re: Turner in South Saskatchewan
There were countless TURNER families in Saskatchewan by that time. More clues are needed. Do you know who he married, etc?
Is he from your own lineage? If so, who were your grandparents, etc?

Re: Turner in South Saskatchewan
Unfortunately that is the only info I have about him that could help with identification. Needle in a haystack?
I do know he had a daughter he probably didn't know about. I wonder whether, since they were living nearby, it could be of the family from Township 9. There is an Archibald Turner listed in the 1911 census, born in 1908. A bit young perhaps, but they were precocious in those days.
If so, was he still in the area in 1924 when he would have been 16 years old?
There are several other Turners in the area born at the right time but without the later census it is difficult to know who was there in 1923-24.
The only hope I have is that there are some enthusiastic genealogists of the Turner family who know the history well enough to know their ancestor was in Kincaid, probably working on a farm, in 1923-24 and left abruptly in 1924!

Re: Turner in South Saskatchewan
Paula: Archibald TURNER was the son of Emma & Jesse TURNER (b-1884) who came from New Brunswick to Saskatchewan. Jesse also had a younger brother (Archie’s uncle) named Alva TURNER (b-1886) who later brought a young family from NB to Saskatchewan, becoming neighbors of Archie and his family.
Archie TURNER had an older sister named Bertha b-1907 who could have potentially had an illegitimate child that might have been therefore named TURNER after his/her mother. Where did Archie go after he left the farm in 1923-24?

Re: Turner in South Saskatchewan
The story i have is from some 1924 adoption records. in a "report to the commissioner" (presumably an adoption commissioner) a man called Turner worked at the Fauchon home (farm in township 9 near Kincaid) and got a girl pregnant. Although they were initially to marry, the parents changed their mind, dismissed him and she subsequently married a man named Wilbrod Ouellette instead so the child was born with the Ouellette surname, then sent for adoption. The story has some amazing and shocking details but that is how i got the name of Turner. Unfortunately the report doesn't mention a first name and post-adoption services in Regina can find no trace of him.
Re: Turner in South Saskatchewan
What is your particular interest in these families Paula? Are you a descendant?
I do have information about a Joseph OUELLETTE who lived in Pontiex, SK between about 1915-1918. Unfortunately, I just don’t have time these days to spend on further investigations.
In that regard please check this link: Special Family Pages (and investigations)

Re: Turner in South Saskatchewan
I am the daughter of the baby girl born of Lea Fauchon and the man Turner so there is another whole branch of the family. I'm in touch with the Fauchon/Oullette side of the family. It is the Turner side i am struggling with. I'll try to start from sources such as "Across the River" if I can get hold of it.
I'm afraid unless some Turner descendent heard the story of Turner's adventures, there is much hope of finding anything as there are no official records of him.

Re: Turner in South Saskatchewan
As I said before, Paula, the TURNER families who lived in the Swift Current area came from New Brunswick, descendants of Washburn TURNER (b-1853) who lived there also. There is therefore virtually no chance that your TURNER family was even remotely related to the TURNER families described in “Across the River” who descended from Philip TURNOR (1751-1799) from the Cumberland House area and the remote northern territories.
