Rupert Lelsie Taylor, in his book "The Native Link: tracing one's roots to the fur trade" Chapter 2 - Young Adventurer, seems to be the first source to propose that our James Inkster is the same James Inkster that married Molly Nicholson on Jan 21 1796 in Houton, Orphir, Orkney, Scotland.
James INGSTER (M).......M: 21 Jan 1796 Spouse: Molly NICOLSON Orphir, Orkney, Scotland
James INKSTER (M).......M: 21 Jan 1796 Spouse: Mally NICOLSON Houton, Orphir, Orkney, Scotland
It would be interesting to see what happened to Molly and her son James.

I haven’t done any further research regarding Molly NICHOLSON.
Years ago I read this in a search I made (didn’t record the source): James INKSTER SR, a Cooper and Carpenter; married Molly NICOLSON b-1769 on Jan 21, 1796 in Orphir, Orkneys, daughter of Barbara ROBERTSON & William NICOLSON.
