Chauncey Davies is my grandfather and his first wife Cameilla Archibald Davies died in 1929 giving birth to my mom. My mother was raised by both her grandparents Cameilla Archibald and William Archibald who lived in Middlechurch, Manitoba. She spend her summers in Selkirk with her grandmother Catherine Reid. I also obtained pictures of Isabella (Bird) Reid 1848-1933 and Murdock Reid 1844-1905.

Hi Cathy

My name is Reid Davies. We are half first cousins (I think that is how you describe it). My father, Bob, is Cammie's half brother. Is your Mother still alive? If you are more comfortable corresponding privately please email me at mnurda@hotmail.com.

Hi Reid - my mother is still alive, living on her own in the same house where she raised all 8 children. I remember your dad as I was about 5 or 6 and went to his wedding with my mom. I have a private email: cathy2231@gmail.com.

Cameilla Davies was the 1st wife of Chauncey Murdoch Davies and died giving birth to my mother Cameilla Boyce. Cameillia Davies (born Archibald) was the daughter of Cameilla Edith (born Dunbar) Archibald born in Scotland and father James Alexander Archibald (1879-1945) born in Winnipeg. James Archibald's mother was Mary born in Moose Factory Ontario in 1851 and died in Winnipeg in 1894. Mary was native and her parents were Alesape and Harriet from Moose Factory. Mary was sponsored by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) of England and given the name Mary Gibson by her sponsor, I have copies of their baptized records for Alesape and family which I obtained from the UofW archives. Mary married William Archibald who worked for the Hudson Bay Company in Moose Factory from 1867-1875. They had a son William in Moose Factory and move to Winnipeg just before James was born. Most of this information was obtained from the Federal Archive records when Mary applied for her script, which was refused because Moose Factory was not considered part of Canada at the time.

Correction:

In Apr 20, 1928 Chauncey married Camelia Edith ARCHIBALD in Winnipeg, daughter of Camelia and James ARCHIBALD who was born 1849 in Moose Factory, Ontario.

On Jul 11, 1929 Camelia Edith (nee ARCHIBALD) DAVIES died in Selkirk at the age of 19, after giving birth to daughter Camelia.
Cathy on the Forum: My mother (Camelia) was raised by both her grandparents Camellia and James ARCHIBALD who lived in Middlechurch, Manitoba. She spend her summers in Selkirk with her grandmother Catherine REID.

Correction Note: my great grandmother's name was also Camelia(Dunbar) Archibald and she was born in Scotland; she was married to James Alexander Archibald who was born in Moose Factory Ontario. My grandmother was raised by Camelia and James Archibald in Middlechurch, Manitoba

Thanks Cathy: Although your statement “James Archibald who was born 1849 in Moose Factory” seems erratic, I do agree with your Correction Note in that regard, and have updated the Family Page accordingly.

You are correct James Alexander Archibald was born in 1879 to Mary Gibson (Alesape) born in Moose Factory and William Archibald who was with the Hudson Bay Company posted at Moose Factory, Ontario. I obtain her application for Metis Scrip from the Federal Archives (over 80 pages) and she was refused because Moose Factory was not part of the agreement with the Federal Government.

James Archibald was my great Grandfather. Cam Archibald was my grandfather. Lorna Archibald, my mom. I remember visiting Cammy and Johnny's as a kid. We even caught a feral cat in the backyard and took him home to Ignace. I am building my family tree and would love to see Mary's Métis Scrip application if possible.
