Red River's 1870 Census shows a son Joseph Adam born Red River between 1782-1792 and married to Isabelle Rivard his second wife. The Father of Joseph Adam is identified in the Census as Jean BAPTISTE Adam. This being the case, Jean Baptiste Adam must have born 1770 or earlier and was already living in the Red River Settlement during the middle 1700's. His wife is simply identified as Josephte Montagnaise. Montganaise is not a standard Surname and suggests she was Aboriginal from the Montagnais clan who are located in Northern Quebec. Would Jean Baptiste really have brought his wife thousands of kilometers out West. Not likely! so I don't understand the reference to her Surname. Rumour is that Angelique Adam may have been a sister to Joseph Adam. Angelique Adam was married to Jean Baptiste Malaterre Sr. Looking for any information on Jean Baptiste Adam and or his children.
