Hi, I was reading the story on ventrice when i noticed the names Margrate MOORE and Tom THOMAS . Margrate was my great great aunt, i think you have her parents wrong as her father was John Moar/Moore. They lived in the Matlock area since 1890 ish moving from st.Clements. I grew up there and my dad still lives there. He remembers ventrice. Ventrice was raised by my dads aunt and her husband.look forward for some feedback.
thanks colleen

Colleen: Very interesting!
Please tell us more about yourself and about your grandparents, etc and how they fit into the MOORE lineage (dates and places are important).

Re: JOHN ROBERT MOORE (1862-1937)
Hope im posting in the right spot.My 3rd great grandfather came from Orkney in the year 1786,his name was Andrew Moar, the name was changed through the years. One of his sons name was John, not "John robert" born in the year 1804,Moose factory area with hudson bay company, John retired to red river in the year 1859,this was my g great grandfather,he married Nancy thomas daughter of William Thomas, they moved to Phonema mb. around 1890 i believe. One of their sons named Robert Moar also moved there as well as their daughter margaret . robert was my great grandfather who had a son Peter lawrence who had a son Lawrence peter Moore who is my father who still lives in Matlock.Around the year 1900 when John and Nancy died," they are burried in Selkirk at Mapleton" Robert moved around the chalet beach area as well as his sister Margaret who married thomas thomas who are the people who raised Ventrice.Apparently we wern't related to the Moar/Moores in Selkirk but its a work in progress for me.
Re: JOHN ROBERT MOORE (1862-1937)
Colleen: I’m on the same track as you regarding Andrew MOAR from the Orkneys whose son John was born in 1804 (I also agree that this was not John Robert MOORE who wasn’t born until 1862).
However I need some clarification regarding your grandfather Robert MOAR; when was he born and who did he marry?
Also, when was Peter Lawrence MOORE born and who did he marry?

Hi, my great grandfather Robert Moar/Moore was born 1853 at Moose factory,he was abt. 7 when his parents john and nancy retired from hbc to red river, some of his siblings were john who m)matilda Morriseau, they lived somewhere around eagle lake ontario, louise m)setter, charlotte m)thomas folster and margrate m)thomas thomas, they called her maggy,my uncle clarance moore who is 93 remembers her helping deliver his younger brother stanley in matlock.Getting back to robert he m)harriot robillard at mapleton in 1879,they had 3 boys...thomas b)1880,john b)1881and peter b)1883,harriot died 1884 age 26,john died around the age of 6 and thomas died around age 12,just peter left my grandfather.Robert, peter and his parents moved to matlock sometime around 1891.Robert d)1925 and is burried at the robinson spur cemetary in matlock.(On a 1881 census it shows john moore head of houshold and looks like henry and nancy fiddler and their children also live with them). Roberts son peter grew up in the matlock area and signed up for ww1 . He m)mabel jenner in england and brought her back to matlock where they had 3 boys, stanley, clarance and lawrence my dad.Peter d)1930 and is also burried at Robinson Spur Cemetary.Margret and Thomas Thomas are also burried there.

Re: JOHN ROBERT MOORE (1862-1937)
Hi again,
Andrew Moar brought one of his sons back to Orkney in 1836 his name waw Alexander,he would have been quite young,i often thought that this John robert might have been an ancestor that came here to work,it will take me another 10 years to figure this one out.
thanks

Re: JOHN ROBERT MOORE (1862-1937)
Excellent Colleen!
Thanks very much! You’ve got me busy reviewing my information again. I will have a few more questions after I check further.
I have a John MOORE who was born 1805 in the HBC’s Eastmain District (east side of James Bay) who married in 1824 to Clemence ROSS. They had about 9 kids by 1836. Do you know anything about that?

Re: JOHN ROBERT MOORE (1862-1937)
Hi, just to clarify info. i posted yesturday, John Moores daughter Louise m) John richard Settee/Setter. There was another john Moore in the area at that time and he did m) Clemence Ross, they did have quite a few children, some of the names were Catherine m)Loutit, Emma , Roderick, there might have been Mark and Rachel as well and Caesar, althought he lists his mother as clementina, you know that might be mispelled as it is the same father. Going back to John Moore,he had a brother Peter who had a son John george Moore who's children were put in an orfanage they were:Thomas m)Violet King,Charles m) Pearl , John peter m) Mary ann hatten and another Margaret Moar/Moore who m) Richard Linklater. So there are so many Moores with the same first name it is very confusing who is who and who is related to each other.
