Hi! My great grandparents were John Irvine and Nancy Monkman and I've been researching my genealogy for awhile now. I haven't been able
to determine which John Irvine is John Irvine (1792-1879)'s father as there were two John Irvine's working for the HBC at the time of his birth. You've indicated the one born in 1753 as being his father but there is another born in 1764 and joined the HBC in 1785. I'm just curious if you've found some documentation that the 1753 John Irvine is 1792 John Irvine's father?
P.S. You've done such a fabulous job on this site. I can't even imagine the hour's you've spent.

Welcome to the Forum Barb! As a new registrant
you should familiarize yourself with the website workings at this link:
RED RIVER ANCESTRY HOME PAGE
In 1875 a John IRVINE (born May 15, 1872) claimed Scrip in St Andrews as the son of Margaret (Metis) and John IRVINE, English.
Can you give us more information about your grandparents?

My Grandfather was Henry Irvine. Nancy Monkman and John Irvine had 12 children. Henry was the 3rd youngest born in 1895 in Red Deer Hill, SK. Nancy and John had 3 children in St Andrew's before they moved to Saskatchewan in 1883. The rest were all born in the Red Deer Hill area of Saskatchewan between St Louis, Sk and Prince Albert, SK. Henry married Hulda Anderson and my dad was born in 1931.

Hi! Just posting about John Irvine SR. (1792 John Irvine's father) again. There is no Sandwick in England that I can find. Only a Sandwich. So I do believe that John Irvine should be listed as from Sandwick, Orkney. And there were two John Irvine's that worked for the HBC that could potentially have been 1792 John Irvine's father. Here's the link for the 2nd one.

The family verbal history has been that the Irvine's were Scottish. Not that that is proof of any kind. I've found census's that
list them as Scottish. So I do believe that John Irvine was from Orkney.
Thanks!
Barb

I agree Barb, and I have re-worded the narrative accordingly re Sandwick, Orkney. Thanks.
