My cousin, Alex Morrissette of Stonewall, Mb was one of the brave surviving prisoners of war in the battle of Hong Kong. He was a Winnipeg Grenadier. His grandmother, who raised him, was Suzette Williams Smith, whose parents were Edouard Smith & Marie LeClair Smith (daughter of Joseph LeClair & Therese Huppe).

Alex Morrissette was born & raised in Stonewall, Mb & moved to Wpg in the early to mid 60's. I have not had contact with him since the 70's but I believe he was still alive in the early 90's. I left Mb in 67. I do not remember Alex's DOB but he was very young when he went to war, I'm thinking 18 or 19. I still have countless relatives in Wpg who would know. I will try to come up with more info... my aunt Suzette Williams (his grandmother) raised him, his brother & a sister as their parents had died. Many relatives used Bardal's Funeral Home so I will also try their archives.

After some further review I found Alex MORRISETTE’s origins. He was a son of Therese CHIEF and Norman MORRISSETTE b-1899. I have added his name to the HONG KONG PAGE.

Therese CHIEF b-1898 was the daughter of Suzette SMITH and Charles CHIEF (1865-1910).

Hi Gary,

Donald George Innes, son of Minnie Iserhoff and George Innes and grandson of Samuel R. Iserhoff was a soldier in the battle of Hong Kong.

'C' Force
B38350 Donald INNES
1st Bn The Royal Rifles of Canada - D Company, 17th Platoon

84% of D Company was lost in one of the last battles held before surrender on December 25th, 1941.

Don was reported as injured on December 25th - he was imprisoned at Hong Kong Island, 'North Point' for 6 months and then at 'Kowloon' for another 4 months prior to being transferred to Omine Prison Camp on Kyushu Island, Japan where he was forced to work in the coal mines for the remainder of the war. Don grew up at Pagwa if I'm not mistaken although he lived in Hunta, Ontario when he first signed up for the forces. According to my grandmother Minnie McLeod (Don's cousin), he lied about his age upon enlisting... he was only 16 years old.

Thomas Harriot Sinclair, 15 Oct 1907 -24 Nov 1982, also should be posted. He is the son of Harriet Louisa Harriott and Cuthbert Allan Sinclair, and the grandson of John Edward Harriott and Jane Taylor.

Thanks very much Jen and Beth! I have added these names to the narrative. It would be nice to add their pictures if you happen to have them.
