looking any info or maps on fort des trembles.

Post by seanarthur » Tue Jan 19, 2016 11:28 am

Hi, I can barley find any information on fort des trembles, just that it was located around 5-9 miles west of portage LA prairie on the south side of the assinaboine, and that it was abandoned in 1781 after a skirmish with the local Indians. Any information or maps would be helpful in finding it's original location. Thanks

Fort des Tremble is shown on the second map at this link:

Fort des Tremble was also known as the Poplar Fort. In several articles it is mentioned as being from 5 to 9 miles west of Portage la Prairie, and as you mentioned – it essentially ceased to exist after it was abandoned in 1781. I doubt very much if we will ever get a better location than that from anyone. Why is the precise location so important to you?
