Re: JAMES MONKMAN (1775-1865)
I am curious about the story told by Kathleen Monkman concerning James Monkman and his brother. Where is the Orkney she refers to? I only got the Orkney Isands when I typed it in? Was James still living in York and where was he being sent to school? Does anyone know the name of the brother? Any more info on this story appreciated.

Jane (Jenny) Monkman (1822-1908), the daughter of James and Mary (Muskegon) Monkman, is my 3x great-grandmother by Pierre Ducharme. His name and possible birth date (1815) are all I know about Pierre Ducharme. Does anyone have any other information about him? Thank you.

First, thanks very much for the donation Barbara, and welcome to the Forum! I look forward to working with you regarding your ancestors.
I have lots of information about these families but some of it is pretty complicated. Apparently Pierre DUCHARME was also known as Pierre MONKMAN.
To get me on the right track, please give some brief details about your lineage leading up to Pierre DUCHARME. Which one of his children and grandchildren are linked to your own family? Dates and places are important.
Regards, Gary

Re: JAMES MONKMAN (1775-1865)
Hello Gary, I am the daughter of Olive Jacqueline Gerrond (1922-2012), the daughter of John Gerrond (1888-1959), the son of Mary Jane Monkman (1878-1908), the daughter of James Monkman 3 (1843-1933), who was the illegitimate (?) son of Jane [Jenny] Monkman (18225-1908) and Pierre Ducharme. Jenny was the daughter of James Monkman 1 (1774-1865) and Mary Musgegon [aka Swampy Cree] (1789-1939]. According to my research, James Monkman 2 was Jenny's brother.

Who was John GERROND’s father who married Mary Jane MONKMAN?

Re: JAMES MONKMAN (1775-1865)
Sorry Gary, you did ask for place names as well as dates. John Gerrond's father was James Gerrond, born 18 May 1860 in Goderich, Huron, Canada West (Ontario). He moved to Saskatchewan sometime in the 1880s and is listed in the 1891 Census of Canada as a resident of Red Deer Hill, Saskatchewan. He died 27 Feb 1937 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
His father, William Gerrond Jr., was born 1827 in Kirk Girthon, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland and his mother, Isabella Rieckie was born 1826, also in Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland. They emigrated to Canada around 1848, settling first in Huron County, Canada West (Ontario) and later moved to Saskatchewan. William was a teacher and a farmer. Both William and Isabella are buried in St. Andrew's Anglican Church cemetery, Halcro (Prince Albert) Saskatchewan.
Thank you for your assistance and patience. Barbara

Thanks Barbara. To save a lot of chatter, I now have access to your excellent information on Ancestry.ca and together with what I have, we can now proceed with some Family Pages. I will begin with your great-great grandfather, James DUCHARME-MONKMAN and should have his Page up by tonight or tomorrow. Will let you know.
